I worked in England for ten years and am now the English section coordinator in an international school in France. My resources cover all areas of the curriculum at varying levels as many of the children that I teach now do not have English as a first language.

Taste tests

These two worksheets go together. I provide 10 different types of food which the children have to identify by taste only. I usually do this alongside smell tests to encourage the children to focus on one sense at a time. You could provide whatever food that you want. I tend to use fruit and vegetables, with the addition of cheese and chocolate so that we always end with something that everyone likes! Be careful of children with food alergies. I do this as part of a topic on food and the digestive system.

This is a quite simple art idea as long as everyone follows the instructions. The end results look really good as a display in the classroom and I find that the children usually really enjoy it and want to make more.

Desert Island Books

This idea is based on Desert Island Discs. The children can choose 5 books to read whilst stranded on a desert island. They need to justify their choices. You could adapt the worksheet to change the number of books if you want to broaden the childrens' choice.

Santa's Sleigh

This idea comes from a book called 'The Art of Papercrafts' which I have had for many years. The sleighs can be a little fiddly to stick together, but they look great once they are finished. I fill them with tissue paper and some Christmas sweets for the children to take home at the end of term.

This is a simple, cut and stick activity for younger children. They can colour in the pictures first, then cut them out and stick them in a circle so that the concept of a cycle is clear.

Snowman Enlargement

Using the grid, children can create an enlargement of the small picture of a snowman. They should be encouraged to work on each square, not to look at the whole picture. I usually do this in the run up to Christmas.

Stormy Sea Dance

This dance idea encourages children to work individually, building up to large group work. The music really evokes the movement of the sea and develops to a crescendo for the shipwreck. You will have to listen carefully to the 1st movement of Scherehazade to find the right length of music for your group.

I collect pictures of famous people from magazines, (preferably A4 size). Children can choose a picture which they then cut in half. Stick one half onto a piece of drawing paper and draw in the other half. It sometimes helps to turn the paper upside down so that the children look at specific lines, not the person as a whole. They can then colour in their drawn half matching the original as closely as possible. Once finished, the pictures can be mounted and make a great display in the classroom.
