This bundle contains a series of 3 completely original, engaging and thought-provoking collective worship sessions aiming to build children’s understanding of St. Peter. Each session focuses on a different aspect of Peter’s life: Jesus Calls Peter The Denial of Peter The Restoration of Peter Each worship session follows a colourful and comprehensive PowerPoint presentation which guide the worship leader and the children through the worship journey, including opportunities for recall, engagement with scripture, drama-based activities (session 2 contains an original script), videos (hyperlinked), hymns and prayer. Towards the end of each session, children are encouraged to reflect on their own personal spirituality, in response to deep and relevant discussion questions. This worship sessions are tried and tested, and have always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. The colourful and comprehensive presentation guides the worship leader and the children through the following journey: -Recalling prior knowledge about Saint Peter and establishing the basic information about who he was/ what he is known for; -Recalling how Peter had denied his acquaintance with Jesus; -Watching and comprehending an engaging, age-appropriate video (hyperlinked) which details Jesus’ resurrection and appearance to Peter; -Considering how Peter worked to redeem himself after Jesus had ascended to heaven; -Reflecting on our own spirituality - thinking about times when we let people down - how can we redeem ourselves? -Participating in related song and prayer. This whole class reading session aims to develop children’s fluency and comprehension skills through reading about the final days of Jesus’ life. The non-fiction text that they read is adapted from a BBC Bitesize article about Jesus’ last days. The reading is followed by a series of activities aiming to develop children’s VIPERS skills: vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, sequencing and summarising. It also contains a vocabulary check immediately after the extract is read to clarify any unfamiliar/ difficult language. The tasks are comprised of quick-check questions, solo thinking, pair/ group discussions and deeper thinking activities. The text to read is provided in both PDF and Word format. The session is best suited for children in upper KS2, however it could easily be used with KS3 students and could feasibly be utilised with slightly younger children, depending upon the individual context of your class.

This original and purposeful collective worship session aims to teach children about the meaning of advent. -Understanding what advent is and when it is celebrated; -Understanding different symbols and rituals of advent, for example advent wreaths and christingles, aided by an informative video; -Learning that there are different types of ‘waiting’, and that some types of waiting are more difficult than others, through an interactive task; -Understanding that Christians also view advent as a time to reflect on the ‘waiting’ of Jesus’ return; -Reflecting on what has been learnt through the session; -Ending with a prayer and a hymn about leadership. This worship is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. It is comprehensive (20 slides in total) and the slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. No further resources are required except a beanbag or small ball for the challenge activity - everything else that you need to present the worship is included.

This purposeful and original collective worship session aims to assist children in understanding the value of effective teamwork, through: -Understanding what teamwork is and recognising why it is important (with the help of a funny, purposeful video, which is hyperlinked into the presentation); -Learning what the Bible teaches about teamwork, and how we can apply these ideas to our own lives; -Looking at everyday activities and considering which require effective teamwork skills; -Demonstrating the power of teamwork through an engaging and powerful ‘hula hoop challenge’ game; -Understanding how and why teamwork can be important in school, and thinking about how they would use teamwork in different scenarios; -Finding out about how teamwork has contributed to some of humankind’s greatest achievements; -Ending with a prayer and a song about using our individual talents as a part of a team. This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. It is comprehensive (27 slides in total) and the slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. No further resources are required except a single hoop for the challenge activity - everything else that you need to present the worship is included. The assembly presentation is fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker just in case. Hope that you find this useful!

This series of three fun and original collective worship sessions has been designed to develop children’s understanding of the value of wisdom. Each session focuses on a different feature of ‘being wise’: Seeking Help Dealing with Hazards Collaborating Each session follows a similar structure for developing children’s knowledge and understanding: -Gathering: bringing the worship together, thinking about the key themes and vocabulary; -Engaging: Using a variety of strategies to engage the children in the main idea, before linking the theme to different stories and quotes from the Bible (with a range of discussion opportunities); -Reflecting: Relating the key ideas to a modern context and the lives of the children, thinking about what has been learnt and can be applied; -Sending: Opportunities for linked song and prayer. This fun and original collective worship aids children in understanding the value of wisdom. Specifically, it focuses on having the wisdom to know when to collaborate with others. It was delivered as a part of a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a bundle), but works equally well as a standalone worship session. This is achieved through: -Recalling the definition of wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise; -Thinking about what the word ‘collaboration’ means and discussing what we know about hazards; -Watching an age-appropriate video of different examples of collaboration from popular culture (hyperlinked); -Reading about Jesus and his effective collaboration with the apostles; -Relating these teachings to the modern world - discussing how others have shown collaboration to achieve great things, and thinking about how we can show collaboration in our own lives; -Singing a hymn relating to working with others, before reflecting through prayer. The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation and a hyperlink to the necessary video and hymn. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to consider how collaborating and using the wisdom of others can help us in our lives.
