It is a 4 step approach to supporting children in developing an understanding of the text they are reading through specific modelling, scaffolding and explanation.
The 4 step approach:
Modelling : supporting children in understanding the concept and demonstrating how to develop key areas through clear explanations.
Practice: allowing children time to demonstrate their understanding from the previous session through guided support and scaffolding.
Independence: moving children towards developing their understanding through independent practice.
Apply: children answering questions independently in a comprehension exercise covering all aspects of understanding.
