Lesson designed after this Winters storm surge to get the pupils think about coastal management in the UK. Used after a lesson on coastal management techniques, pupils used their knowledge to make a decision on how to manage the coastline.

A checklist for pupils to use to assess their understanding of the learning outcomes for Oceans on the Edge Edexcel Spec B (Linear). I have taken each point from the Edexcel exemplar SOW and organised it for the pupils to consider their understanding of each learbning outcome to identify where further revision/help is needed.

Assessment for a topic on river - covers river features, processes, land form formation and flooding.

A lesson on characteristic features of Britain and the British culture. Differentiation - Card sort activity with characters to stretch and challenge the more able.

Key word list to go with a SOW on local and global connections. Topics covered by words culture and identity different scales (with examples) type of industry globalisation

A selection of cards for positive and negative behaviour. I print the positive behaviours on green and the ones for negative behaviour on red. The negative behaviour cards rather than tell the pupil what they are doing wrong give the instruction for the alternative action that is expected. e.g. If they are talking over the teacher, card says listen when others speak. If a pupil recieves 3 red cards a sanction is issued. If a pupil recieves 3 green cards a reward is issued.

This is my first attempt at writing a Humanities SOW having just progressed into a new role. Feedback would be appreciated. Planning for a 5 week term. SOW on the History of Entertainment. Looks at pastimes of the Romans, the Middle Ages and the Victorians followed by modern day entertainment and the significance of the internet. Looks at a variety of historical skills over the term. A lesson on the role of celebrity chefs and the influence they have on what we eat. Introduction with a quiz, leads on to discussing the role of celebrity chefs then looks at Jamie Oliver and his role by watching a short clip from JO Food Revolution. Pupils then make research and create a fact-file on a celebrity chef.

This lesson works on encouraging pupils to think about what the world would be like if we ran out of fossil fuels. When I taught this most pupils thought about the problems that would arise from reduced fossil fuel availability but some started to discuss the positive options and future developments that might occur. Some of the ideas were inspiring. The pupils clearly understood the issues surrounding fossil fuels and the need for renewable energy. They really enjoyed the creative side of this.

A word list to support KS3 learners with the spelling of key words for a global issues topic that covers global warming, energy and food and water security. These are the words I find they most frequently use within the topic.

A sentence starter and connectives mat to support learners with literacy. Created in particular for KS3 but could be used with a variety of year groups.

Dragon's den style project. Pupils to design a product and complete a project on it to show their understanding of globalisation, interdependence and the social and environmental consequences of the things we buy. Designed as a homework to be completed along side classwork on the Geography of Fashion and Sport. Pupils to hand in a project and to produce a presentation on their product to be delivered in a Dragon&'s Den style.

An atlas based lesson to develop the use of an atlas for finding information. The lesson was created for a high abiity year 7 set and I have therefore also attached an atlas challenge for lower ability/younger groups.

This is a lesson I did for year 6's during transition week to help develop atlas skills and knowledge of places. Pupils used the atlas to create a fact file on the country of their choice on the back of the balloon outline. They then drew the flag on the balloon. Once complete they cut them out and hung them on a 'washing line&' in alphabetical order. This required them to look at the factfile to find out the country represented by each flag.

Powerpoint and card sort on the different types of pollution. This was designed for a Set 3 group with a wide range of abilities (right from 2a to 5c) and they loved the Simpson theme throughout the lesson. The card sort was given to the pupils as just the images, types of pollution and the sources then as the higher ability completed it they were given the effects to sort. The lower ability students were given very simple effect cards with two or three words on each but I'm unable to find that document to add to the resource

A complete the table activity on the passage of a depression. Ideally used after watching a video. Pupils given the worksheet with the table and the diagram. They must then place the cards onto the table to complete it. Some parts of the table have been filled in but you could remove these or change the words on the cards for differentation purposes.
