A resource to develop the confidence and key language of pupils aiming for a grade C in French GCSE writing and speaking. A vocabulary / writing and speaking frame page followed by 3 tasks to drill and develop key language across all topics, in order to enable pupils to write and speak at grade C and gain some inspiration for Controlled Assessment. This resource was produced after studying the assessment criteria for grade C from both AQA and Edexcel. This handbook is stand alone, and has space for writing in. It can be used as cover or independent work. It is ideal as a precursor to starting Controlled Assessment preparation (ideally early on in the GCSE course) on any topic as I have tried to make to vocabulary and concepts cross-topic. Ideally pupils should have access to a dictionary.

Double sided sheet with text followed by activities. Can also be used as a springboard for discussion on what constitutes a C grade text, and how to enhance it to improve the grade.

Designed for persistent D graders, who could work at a C, but just cannot make the connection. Extensive presentation with notes and suggestions of how to deliver. For candidates aiming for all grades from C upwards, as you can get them to consider how to enhance the texts /improve the grade. This could cover at least 3 lessons, possible more, as it build pupils up through basic to more complex opinions, with a review of how to use verbs (in the present tense) along the way. Designed for my bordering D/C pupils.

A sheet with AQA GCSE marking criteria to enable peer assessment and reflection on next steps for improvement in Speaking Controlled Assesssment preparation. Is for Spanish speaking, but with minor adjustments can be for writing and any language. However, I will adjust for writing Controlled Assessment for those less confident or new to the mark scheme. Can be used for peer assessment, but also to aid self-assessment, or for FLAs/TAs as guidance. A presentation/lesson/mini unit of work that focuses on tenses and time frames in order to prepare students for the new GCSE writing.

A lengthy worksheet designed to enable British students to reflect on the success criteria for GCSE Spanish at A* - how to gain the highest possible marks in the exam they take aged 16. The resource contains a crib sheet with vocabulary and grammar, as well as some higher level exemplar texts to help pupils practice reading more complex Spanish as well as adapting the texts in order to create their own higher level texts. This worksheet would be suitable for those seeking to enhance their spoken and written Spanish.

A unit of work with vocabulary, grammar and activities to help students reflect on how to create A-A* work for their Speaking and Writing controlled assessments, according to AQA and Edexcel marking criteria. This resource is best used in conjunction with a dictionary (including online), and is also useful for building reading confidence. The exemplar texts could be read out as part of a dictation activity also, with pupils checking what they wrote with the exemplar texts, to help with listening skills. It is suitable for independent or cover work, as well as homework or teacher-led activities.

This sheet is designed to enable ‘live’ marking during speaking mock exams and also to enable quick but detailed feedback to students. It can also be used for a ‘walking, talking mock’. I have made the wording of the mark scheme clearer and more concise to render it clearer for students. Grade boundaries are included so that the sheet is a complete mark scheme. Comprehensive vocabulary lists and tasks to help students revise key structures and vocabulary. I have added the vocab lists as excel lists so that they can be easily copied and pasted into various revision applications, or simply copied and pasted onto word documents. They are the ‘vocab sgeets’ referred to in the handbook. The structure of the handbook encourages spaced repeition and low stakes testing to embed this key language.
