I came up with this activity whilst toasting crumpets for breakfast over half term. This gives the opportunity to measure/read bearings accurately and find the position of something given a bearing from two points. Answers are the best I could do from my computer screen!

This is a powerpoint covering all aspects of sets and venn diagrams required for GCSE. It contains brief notes by way of an explanation, model answers to questions and a question or two for the students to do; all of the questions come with answers that you can display when ready. The slide show comes with a progress grid (regularly referred to in the presentation) so that students can mark their progress from start to finish and pinpoint any areas that may need extra work with a “red/amber/green” system that they fill in; each one is given an approximate grade in both new (2017 onwards) and old system in England. It’s what I use in my lessons before setting tasks from worksheets or text books to practise.

Solve the simultaneous equations to reveal the punchline to a lame joke in both cases. The equations on codebreaker 1 are all designed to be solved by elimination; the equations on codebreaker 2 are to be done by substitution.

This is designed to test all aspects of y=mx+c. There are 4 different "explosions" of increasing difficulty that should encourage discussion in class and hopefully develop deeper understanding of the concept of equations of lines.

These are levelled/graded worksheets covering the GCSE curriculum and split up into topics. Each individual sheet builds from the most straightforward elements of the topic through to the most challenging. At the top of each sheet is a “RAG” table for students to complete before and/or after completing each section; every statement in a RAG table is connected to a section in the sheet. I have produced these for two reasons: firstly to allow my Year 11 students to focus their revision on the areas that will make it most efficient and secondly to have a bank of worksheets available that students can differentiate themselves for any GCSE topic within lessons. This is all of them in one bundle (essentially all four for the price of three). Now with contents page and updated in December 2018!

This is a booklet of 50 worksheets that can be used for either revision, homework or those students who have missed work with each containing a QR code that will scan to a short tutorial video. It is designed to cover the entire GCSE algebra curriculum. I have tried to order the sheets in a logical way, although not necessarily in "difficulty" order, the topics are grouped. These are an attempt to break from the monotony of past papers in the run up to exam season. I have taken 2 or 4 (depending on whether they will fit on a page!) questions from past papers and put them on one sheet; I will photocopy onto A3 for students to have a go in groups and discuss. The aims/rules etc are all listed if you wish to follow them and hopefully they all make sense. I have also provided answers.

This worksheet is an attempt to get students comfortable with algebra, angles and proof. This starts with angles around a point and on a line and asks students to write down any relationships between angles. We then move on to polygons (including triangles) and look for relationships. The next stage is parallel lines and their angle properties, asking studetns to write angles in terms of another angle. Finally we have circle theorems and some simultaneous equations moving on to a couple of proofs. This should generate discussion and is designed to do so, especially the parts involving algebra plus the need to explain the angle property used in each case.

I have split this into two types: substitution involving rearranging and algebraic rearranging (four of each, each getting increasingly difficult). The substitution spiders are pretty straightforward but the algebraic ones should lead to discussion in class and will allow students to demonstrate (or not) that they fully understand the topic.

This idea is from Craig Barton and is an excellent one (check them out his at website); essentially it is four questions based on the same information. There are four here which use average, area, quadratics, cubics, speed, sequences, angles and time as well as other topics. This really should create discussion and a deeper understanding of the topics covered on top of ensuring that students actually read the question. I hope these are worthy! I will be using these as starters or plenaries.

The students are given the answer and asked to fill in the gaps in the question. Topics used involve probability, algebra, fractions, percentages, ratio, speed, distance, time and many others. Some of the questions allow for multiple answers so discussion could be had. Designed to be used as starters/plenaries to get the grey matter moving. The Easter theme runs through every question and is a tad tenuous at times but there you go.
