I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Drawing Pie Charts

Drawing Pie Charts

(3)
A simple worksheet on drawing pie charts with some practise questions. Nothing special, just doing a job.
Sequences: Term-To-Term Rules

Sequences: Term-To-Term Rules

(19)
Describe the term-to-term rules of these then it could be extended to link into nth terms. This is an attempt to show the relationship between the difference and the nth term through comparison and therefore discovery rather than the teacher just saying how it works. I have also thrown in some "famous sequences" that can be discussed.
Generating Sequences

Generating Sequences

(3)
This uses term-to-term rules to get students to generate sequences then moves onto finding position-to-term rules and possibly nth terms if appropriate (with the sequences paired to an extent).
Co-ordinate Relationships

Co-ordinate Relationships

(3)
This is designed as a lead into equations of lines and links to previous work on function machines/sequences. Five sets of co-ordinates to find the relationship between x and y plus to fill in some blanks.
Worded Mathematical Problems

Worded Mathematical Problems

(1)
Designed as a starter for worded mathematical problems this involves a wordsearch where the answers all go into a table linking words like "sun" and "total" to addition etc. These are followed by a few questions.
Estimation Warehouse

Estimation Warehouse

(7)
No power and therefore no access to phones (battery's run out) so estimating in your head it is then! Four fairly simple calculations (I've called the final one a challenge as it involves more steps) that could lead to further discussion, something I have added/given the option to people in after the answers are revealed in the powerpoint. You can either do straight from the powerpoint or from the worksheet (saving the planet option available therefore).
Function Machines Puzzles

Function Machines Puzzles

(3)
Can you calculate what the workers in each box are doing on the mathematical building site? It's essentially function machines but where you have the answers but need to find the rules.
Time Problems Codebreakers

Time Problems Codebreakers

(7)
Two codebreakers, the second one being a touch harder, involving time calculations. Two cheesy jokes for the students to discover. Can be used as a class activity, starter, plenary, discussion exercise or homework (or however you want really, including not at all). Error mentioned in the comments now corrected - thank you!
12 Hour and 24 Hour Clock Codebreaker
alutwychealutwyche

12 Hour and 24 Hour Clock Codebreaker

(13)
The usual joke found by converting times from 12 hour to 24 hour clock and vice versa. Also includes some "worded" times. Designed for starter, plenary, discussion, homework.
Multiples and Factors Codebreaker
alutwychealutwyche

Multiples and Factors Codebreaker

(10)
A really bad joke (I think I've surpassed myself with this one) but some practice on multiples and factors on this one. As I say on all of these they can be used as a starter, plenary, homework, discussion exercise, whatever you like basically.
Rounding Codebreakers
alutwychealutwyche

Rounding Codebreakers

(52)
Four codebreakers (each with a different cheesy joke) on rounding starting with nearest whole 1,10,100 etc, then decimal places, then significant figures and finally a mixture of all types. Error in sheet 1 corrected. More codebreaker resources 🔑 Cheesebreakers (Cheese-related joke) Bundle Codbreaker (Fish-related Joke) Bundle Number + Probability Codebreakers GCSE Maths
Place Value Codebreaker
alutwychealutwyche

Place Value Codebreaker

(7)
A short activity with a really lame joke (when aren't they?) naming the place value in which the 5 is positioned in each number. Designed for a quick homework, plenary or starter and involves tenths etc as well as the large place values (up to 10 million).
Reading and Writing Large Numbers Codebreaker
alutwychealutwyche

Reading and Writing Large Numbers Codebreaker

(17)
This is a simple codebreaker to ensure that students can write a worded number in digits; if they finish they can have a go at writing the numbers that aren't used in words. The joke is one I found online but does the job!
Marvel Probability
alutwychealutwyche

Marvel Probability

(7)
Dr Doom has designed a virus that has infiltrated superhero gadgets and suits. Find the probability of each hero's gadget working. This involves simple probability, expected outcomes, relative frequency and a challenge of mutually exclusive events. It can be done as a discussion activity or as a worksheet where the challenge is on the back.
Properties of 3D Shapes Codebreaker
alutwychealutwyche

Properties of 3D Shapes Codebreaker

(4)
The normal lame joke (written by my 9 year old daughter this time) but covering 3D shapes and their properties: edges, vertices, faces. Designed to be used as a starter, plenary, discussion item, quick homework.
Vampire Diaries - Measures

Vampire Diaries - Measures

(0)
Three levels starting at simple metric conversion, then calculating with different metric units before converting imperial to metric. I used Vampire Diaries as one of my Year 9 class requested it. The worksheet is set out as a "RAG" activity where you prove what you know by answering the questions. It's short enough to be a plenary or starter and the presentation can be split into individual tasks.
Captain America's Shield Options - Areas of Circles and Sectors
alutwychealutwyche

Captain America's Shield Options - Areas of Circles and Sectors

(2)
Captain America wants some new shields made. You have to calculate the area then volume of the shields. The rare alloy, vibranium, that the shields are made from is limited so using old, broken shields you have to calculate if he has enough of the alloy; this part is sectors of circles. I have intentionally split the activity into two so that you can stop after the initial areas of circles depending on the class.
Defuse the Bomb - Expanding and Factorising

Defuse the Bomb - Expanding and Factorising

(14)
Three sheets on each; sheet 1 is basic, sheet 2 a little more complex and sheet 3 involves two brackets. Designed to be a quick plenary, starter, homework activity. They numbers equate in case you want to put them side by side.

A 2016 Internet Minute

I found a graphic on Twitter and thought it would make a nice discussion lesson/part lesson on time and number, possibly standard form. Anyway, I made this Powerpoint to get people started.
