This is a booklet of around 180 worksheets covering the GCSE Maths course, each with an accompanying QR code to a short video for those who need a reminder of how to do the questions (the videos aren’t solutions to the questions on the sheet but to similar questions). There are answer sheets at the end so answers can be checked. This includes new elements of the GCSE including iteration, frequency trees, Venn diagrams and other topics. Each section (Number, Algebra, Geometry and Data) is available individually but if you want the whole booklet then this is for you.

These cover new topics on the GCSE curriculum including Venn diagrams (Given that…), iteration, algebraic proof, expanding three brackets and others plus some gaps plugged from the original bundles. Each sheet contains questions and an accompanying video which is accessed via a QR code; the video is reasonably short and covers a couple of examples of similar questions on the sheet.

I needed something for a bar chart and pie chart consolidation lesson and thought of this in the car; Barbara likes bar charts, Piers likes pie charts (the puns are clearly intended). There are two bar charts to convert to pie charts and two pie charts to convert to bars.

These are calculation pyramids but they give a punchline to a joke. These are designed to be done without a calculator but it is clearly up to you.

Ultimately you transform shapes to get the punchline to a lame joke. This involves reflection, rotation and translation. Correct answer sheet now attached.

More homework tasks with QR code allowing students to access a tutorial video if required. These involve algebraic fractions, more circle theorems, partially simplified surds (so students can’t just use their calculator), proportion, vectors (more complicated questions involving collinear vectors), truncation, trigonometry in right-angled triangles and others. There are 23 new sheets with answers in this bunch.

Two jokes to be discovered: one on surface area and one on volume. Students answer the questions and reveal a cheesy, fish-related pun. These are useful for starters, plenaries, main tasks or online lessons as the answer reveals itself meaning that students can just get on or check if nothing is being spelt out.

The usual “solve the problems, discover the joke”. These seem to work well in many different settings: classroom, homework, online.

We are about to teach coordinates alongside sequences so thought that this might work nicely. It’s the usual “work out the answers and reveal the punchline” caper, something that works well in class, online and as a homework. The students seem to enjoy the competitive nature of these even if they do groan at the jokes.

Students can use the nth term to answer these sequence questions but it doesn’t push them that way. The joke is cheesy but you’ve probably come to expect that by now… ideal in class, online or as a homework.

This is a true or false activity designed to create discussion about stem-and-leaf diagrams. including using them to find the mode, median and IQR. These work well online but also in the classroom.

Students are required to decide whether the 10 statements based upon a cumulative frequency graph are true or false. This is designed to create discussion but also with online lessons in mind.

Six questions where students are given the question and the answer, their task being to add in the workings. The “possible workings” sheet are just there as an example, not as a concrete “it must be done like this”. These are designed to encourage working and method.

This is designed to encourage workings; students are given a correct addition or subtraction of fractions and have to fill in the blanks in th workings. I have included a “possible workings” files as well, but I don’t really want to force students down any specific road, only encourage them to get each stage down on paper.

Ten statements regarding a comparative bar chart; students decide whether the statements are true or false. Designed to create discussion and for use in online lessons.

Calculate the bearings and discover the punchline for a joke involving fish. These have worked really well in online lessons but also before with real-life lessons so enjoy!

There are four “Show that” questions: two linear equations, two quadratics. These are designed to encourage students to write down method and working rather than just reading out an answer at the end.

This involves simplifying surds, expanding two brackets with surds and rationalising the denominator. Some of the" answers" are not fully simplified to encourage students not to use a calculator more than absolutely necessary. This sheet is designed to encourage method/workings and my “possible workings” are just a guide, not a manual!
