The survivors have found some mathematically shaped islands which are zombie free. Find the area and perimeter of the islands to see how many people can live on them and how much fencing is needed to keep zombies out. Rectangles, triangle, parallelogram, trapezium, circle and compound shapes involved.

Deputy Nick Crimes needs to navigate at night using bearings and exact distances between locations to avoid zombies. Can you find the bearings and distances he requires?

A little known fact about Santa's helpers the elves is that they are very keen mathematicians. They have written down various bits of information required by Santa in algebra. I saw a picture on Twitter showing what happens in a minute on the social networking site (lots of my students use it too). I therefore came up with this activity. I'm sure you could make more questions based upon the statistics given.

Help test the formulae the party planner uses to calculate the amounts of each item they need. Very straight forward and intended for a low ability set.

Find the values of the expressions to get the letters to an anagram of a film. Fairly straight forward but sheet 2 is more difficult than sheet 1.

This is a revision aid where students must read the 'notes' carefully and find the deliberate errors (and possibly undeliberate ones!). I have split (with some overlap) it up into three parts going from 'what is an expression/identity/equation?', through simplifying, expanding brackets, factorising into a bracket, solving equations, multiplying out 2 brackets, factorising quadratics and solving quadratics (factorising, completing the square and the formula). The aim is to get them active in their revision!

Factorise then solve the anagrams for a film - pretty straightforward and sheet 2 is harder than sheet 1 with coefficients of x squared being greater than 1. Correct file now there!

Solve the quadratics and reveal the anagram of a film - each quadratic gives 2 answers unless there is an odd number of letters in a word when the answer counts just once. The second sheet contains coefficients of x squared that are greater than one and a difference of 2 squares question.
