I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Definite Integrals

(8)
This presentation just takes you through definite integrals and uses questions from Edexcel; please don't expect anything flashy. If the animations get mixed up I apologise but for some reason Equation Editor doesn't have square brackets onto which one can put limits! Annoying.

The Number Games

A student gave me the title (pun on 'The Hunger Games'), I did the rest. Five different sets of questions in a functional style for students to work through either individually or in pairs/teams. It's supposed to be non-calculator! I may do a sequel for this as there are a few topics I haven't covered.

The Walking Dead - Season 2 - Locus and Construction

Guide Deputy Nick Crimes past the shufflers and nibblers (zombies) by construction accurate paths upon which he must travel and loci upon which he must pay close attention. Six different situations involving perpendicular bisectors, angle bisectors and loci. Worksheet available for student to draw on and PowerPoint has animated answers.

Ratio Activities: Batman and Robin PowerPoint

(7)
This resource consists of a PowerPoint and worksheet with answers. The aim is to divide the villains up in the given ratios for Batman and Robin to tackle, then find the ratio by simplifying. Ideal for KS3 and KS4 students.
Proportion Spider

Proportion Spider

(7)
This covers simple direct and inverse proportion, including finding the relationship bewteen x and y as well as using the formula to calculate other values. Some challenge ones involve surds towards the end. Each spider has challenges for discussion when seeking solutions. Designed to encourage discussion.

Clumsy Clive On Function Notation

(7)
New on the GCSE syllabus, Clive is struggling with function notation icluding inverse and composite functions. Can your students check, correct and explain what Clive has done wrong in the four questions? This should encourage discussion.

Types of Non-Linear Function

I needed something for students to plot quadratic, cubic and reciprocal functions on that wouldn't mean that half the lesson is taken up with drawing axes. I added exponential functions at the end as an extension. It literally does what it says on the tin stopping short of circles, and hopefully some might be able to draw conclusions from the positions of the functions.

What Was The Question? 2

(7)
This is designed to get students thinking rather than just blindly following a mathematical recipe. There a four sets of 4 problems which all have the same answer (given in the centre of the screen). Each question has a blank for the students to fill in and sometimes there is more than one answer for the blank. This particular one covers probability, percentages, fractions, ratio, angles, equations, gradient, indices and other topics. I will be using these as starters to get students thinking.

Building Blocks - Proof

This details the skills required to perform GCSE proofs up to grade 8/9 building up from the basics to the more complicated questions.

Name the properties and formulae for volume and surface area with Disco Stu from The Simpsons who is partial to throwing some shapes on the dancefloor.

Differentiation Codebreakers

Answer the differentiation questions, find the letters and reveal the punchline to a (terrible) joke. My class in Year 12 actually request these only to groan enormously when the answer is revealed. Just meant for a bit of practice, a starter or a plenary. Version 2 contains second derivatives.
Marvel Probability

Marvel Probability

(7)
Dr Doom has designed a virus that has infiltrated superhero gadgets and suits. Find the probability of each hero's gadget working. This involves simple probability, expected outcomes, relative frequency and a challenge of mutually exclusive events. It can be done as a discussion activity or as a worksheet where the challenge is on the back.

Clumsy Clive On Sequences

This was an idea I had in on the way to work one morning - Clive makes mistakes on his homework and you need to correct them, explaining the mistake he's made in each case. I intend to use this as a plenary or starter to check learning etc. They should create discussion too. There are 5 different mistakes to correct.
