Core Study Wheel of Doom. In line with unit 2 of OCR A level Psychology but can be used with other courses that require knowledge of key research. Can also be adapted to unit 3 options.
Simple powerpoint with visual of wheel and core study name. I display this on the board as students enter the classroom and get them to write as much as they can remember about that core study on a blank piece of paper. The ‘wheel of doom’ then selects someone to tell me something from the core study. It is the wheel of doom as their name does not get removed from the wheel and so they could get picked again!
Class tools is the website I use that enables you to save a list of class names but I know some people have lollipop sticks etc that they use!
Black Friday Attention Task. I used within my teaching of the OCR Psychology A level course but can easily be used in other courses when teaching attention. I personally used this on Black Friday before introducing the key theme of attention (Moray’s core study).
Task gets students discussing what grabs attention before being given the role of a marketing executive who has to design either an email or social media advert to promote a Black Friday discount. At the end I got them to present to the class and describe the rationale behind the features of their email/advert.
My students thoroughly enjoyed this task and was a great way to discuss psychological careers.
