I have been teaching Biology for 20 years and I have struggled to find concise and engaging resources for teaching Biology, which is why I have set about creating my own. A game of 3 in a row, for practising 2 digit addition and subtraction and making maths fun, with a competitive edge. Great for improving and building pupils’ confidence when using mental arithmetic. The game comes with 30 addition and 30 subtraction question cards. The two packs can either be played separately or together to give pupils a mix of addition and subtraction questions. It also comes with 4 pre-prepared ‘3 in a row’ cards to be photocopied. A detailed instruction sheet is provided on how to use the resource and play the game. For optimal use, durability and longevity please laminate the question cards and pre-prepared ‘3 in a row’ cards before cutting up (a guillotine is the fastest way to do this). OHP pens can be used to write on the laminated ‘3 in a row’ cards and cleaned off with alcohol for reuse if counters are not available for marking off numbers.

Visually appealing worksheets/place mats for GCSE Biology students on the structure of the heart. Perfect for use when teaching the topic and also for revision purposes. The worksheets could even be used as a progress test on these topic areas. The worksheets should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and pupils will be able to work independently through the activities. There is a differentiated heart structure worksheet for students who may benefit from extra support. There is also an answer sheet for the teacher, which is great for non-specialists teaching Biology in schools. As a suggestion the place mat could be laminated and pupils could complete the activities with OHP pens. The laminated sheets could then be cleaned for future use with other pupils. Otherwise the place mat could be laminated after completion by pupils and used for display purposes in the classroom or for revision.

This is an all inclusive worksheet pack on the well-known osmosis and potato chip investigation. In reality this practical does not always generate the expected results due to sources of error and time constraints to set up, hence why I have put this investigation pack together. All answers are provided for the teacher. The pack contains the following: Worksheet 1 introduces the set up of the investigation and pupils need to come up with a hypothesis. Pupils are given results and are asked to calculate change in mass and percentage change in mass. Three versions of the graph paper are provided, each with a different level of support, as many pupils will find drawing the graph with a negative y axis challenging. Worksheet 3 focuses on identifying the different variables and drawing a conclusion from the results. Worksheet 4 focuses on sources of error and how to improve the practical to reduce these, so focuses more on developing pupils’ evaluative skills. There are also extension questions on osmosis and its effect on cells, for those students who may work quicker through the activity.

This Biology GCSE complete lesson resource pack covers the topic of Lung Structure (the respiratory system). This pack includes a PowerPoint on lung structure (the respiratory system), with an associated worksheet (supported version included) to complete for students’ notes and homework task set on the lesson which can easily be assessed and involves no teacher marking. The PowerPoint has slides for both the supported version and the non-supported version (you can hide the slides not needed depending on the ability of your students). This lesson should take approximately 25 minutes. There is also a follow up PowerPoint and recap test sheet (A5, two copies per page and can be easily guillotined) for easy assessment of pupils on this topic. Marking can easily be done via peer marking, saving you time. The recap test should take approximately 10-15 minutes with peer marking and collection of marks by the teacher and makes a great starter activity for the consecutive lesson. A pack of three pupil-led activities designed to engage learners in the classroom whilst studying the respiratory system topic. Activity 1 - Card sort on breathing and lung structure. You could either print this on paper and then cut/guillotine so that pupils could then order them in the correct sequence and glue into their classbook. Or alternatively print onto card or laminate if on paper to create a resource that can be used again and again. Activity 2 - Card sort on the mechanism of breathing. There is a differentiated version of this activity with the higher tier version featuring the internal and external intercostal muscles. Activity 3 - Loop game on the topic of the respiratory system and respiration. There is a differentiated version of this activity with the higher tier version featuring the internal and external intercostal muscles. The idea of this activity is that the pupils have to pay close attention to the question being read out as they may have the correct answer to the question. Pupils seem to really enjoy this activity and it not only helps their learning but is fun too. Either print on card or laminate if on paper to make a reusable resource for the classroom. These activities would be useful as a plenary at the end of the topic or as part of a revision lesson. Activities such as these are praised in observed lessons as the activity is pupil-led rather than teacher-led; great for when being inspected :)
