A 3 day summer poetry unit, perfect for using with year 2 before or after the summer holidays. The unit is based around a poem called ‘Summer Postcards,’ which tells the story of a boy’s crazy travels with an elephant over the summer holidays. During the unit, the children complete a reading comprehension, gather ideas and write their own simple poem, imagining a bizarre trip of their own. This resource is a set of 5 Art lessons based around the theme of the sea, oceans and water for KS1. The key skills that are taught include creating different tones and shades with paint and pencil, using shapes, patterns and lines and experimenting with different materials. There are 3 different artists used as inspiration, all of whom have painted the sea or water using very different techniques. The children have the opportunity to work alone for 4 lessons and part of a collaborative group project for the final lesson. They have lots of opportunity to choose what materials they work with. The 15 page pdf lesson plans are very detailed and include a list of any resources you will need to get out of the cupboard. There are also details of curriculum links and examples of work from my classes. A 5 lesson literacy unit based around Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The unit is aimed at year 3 and 4 and gives details of the curriculum objectives covered. The children develop reading comprehension, speaking, planning, writing, editing and SPaG skills during the unit. This is achieved through varied, fun and interactive activities. All five lessons include a SPaG or composition starter, which is always linked to *Romeo and Juliet. * The main activity in lesson 1 is a reading comprehension of a simplified version of the play. It is differentiated 3 ways. The main activity in lesson 2 allows children to practise their performance skills. Lesson 3 allows children to begin learning playwriting skills, whilst in lessons 4 and 5, they plan and write their own play or scene, based on Shakespeare’s play. This resource is a scheme of work for a 7 week history unit aimed at Key Stage 2. The theme for the unit is women's rights, with a focus on Elizabeth Garrett-Anderson, the first female doctor and Emmeline Pankhurst, the suffragette. An enjoyable five day poetry unit to use with KS1 during the summer term. During the unit, children have the opportunity to read, study and learn two poems; one about water and one about the beach.
