A set of resources i have produced for pupils to practice simple customer service around running an enterprise stall, where they peer assess each other and as an extension they have a series of problems that might arise at an event that they have to say how they would deal with. The peer assessment is in the form of a checklist and a star and a wish form of feedback
A lesson on car safety, using a Kagan structure to look at car safety features and getting pupils to evaluate which one is best, all resources included within the powerpoint, i photocopy the first slide as a lesson starter
A simple analysis of business data worksheet, has data from our school christmas fair but this can be changed or used as generic data, the other part is a planning for a product alongside writing a persuasive pitch to make sure their product is chosen
A lesson including resources - I made for OCR entry level science - the cooking and cleaning module - although it can be adapted it looks at the effectiveness of washing powders- i intend a practical where they put prestained swatches of white cotton into beakers of warm water - stir it for a set amount of time and then rinse and dry the cloth - they mkae predictions about which brand of washing powder will be best and then see if they are correct - Data is a simple observation
All the unit assignments you will need to deliver the OCR cambridge techincal at level 2 to extended certificate level. You will also need to do unit 1 but you can download the exemplar assignment for this from the OCR website
A whole lesson structure around hookes law good for low ability or entry level, starts with a video and then gets students to design a bungee rope for a toy using elastic bands, the toy must bungee off a table hit a bowl of water and then bounce back up, they can test it first. Also included is the results table and some plenary questions to help with conclusions, and a way of scoring the jumps
An investigation where pupils see what parts of a body would survive being immersed in acid the experiment can include putting plastic, calcium (labelled bone), meat (i used mince) and zinc (fillings). There are 2 levels of response sheet to go with the experiment could be for a science club or as part of a lesson
A resource specifically designed to help BTEC students on principles of applied science pass part of Unit 4 learning aim A. This uses a simulation scenario where pupils have a population of dinosaurs on an island (counters are included if you don't have access to toy dinosaurs, however any toy animal would do). They then have some action cards to act out on their island (these are cut up shuffled and split into half) monitoring the number of dinosaurs at each turn. They can then draw a population graph and answer the questions in the booklet that progress up to Distinction or A grade, also included is a peer assessment sheet, this doesn't mention grades it uses pictures of dinosaurs instead however they correspond to pass, merit and distinction (or C,B and A).
I find modelling populations and their changes in this way really helps pupils (especially lower ability pupils) grasp the concept of what factors affect populations better than any other way I have tried to teach the topic.
An investigation lesson into what happens to your favourite sweets after you eat them, it gets pupils thinking about how science works and to think about what goes into some of the foods they eat, all resources included in the powerpoint including teachers notes for the experiment
A PSHCE resource based on the book and movie nerve, where people have to do silly challenges to earn money and gifts. I have used real internet challenges such as the cinnamon challenge and the fire challenge at 3 different levels (essentially safe, mild peril and downright dangerous), pupils complete the lesson as a game where they challenge each other, roll a dice to find out what effect their challenge has on them and then choose another challenge. There are some thinking questions at the end that could be done as a discussion or bookwork, all resources you need apart from dice (obviously) are included
A basic risk assessment for making melt and pour soap, an activity where pupils find the cost for soap ingrediants and then estimate the cost for a bar of soap, they can use this to decide the cost of their products. A label designing worksheet with simple peer assessment activity
A set of resources where pupils build a lego sleigh and reindeer and have to strap santa and his presents to it (santa is a christmas jelly baby) i will use paper and some blocks to be presents and offer elastic bands and string for harnesses. All lego instructions are included i bought all the lego at the lego store but it could be done with christmas decorations as easily. They will then harness the reindeer (the harness must pull 1kg) and test their fully loaded sled in a wind tunnel (basically a cardboard box and a hair dryer) to ensure that santa can survive. A north pole U certificate is included for pupils who successfully complete the challenges
A set of chemistry objectives for a number of the OCR entry level science modules. These are designed as a pupil assessment sheet to be stuck in at the start of a module and reviewed half way and at the end of a topic. There is also a small self assessment section where they can record there test result and do a what went well and how they can improve
A set of biology objectives for a number of the OCR entry level science modules. These are designed as a pupil assessment sheet to be stuck in at the start of a module and reviewed half way and at the end of a topic. There is also a small self assessment section where they can record there test result and do a what went well and how they can improve.
A collection of useful enterprise worksheets including a basic business plan and SWOT analysis and well as a customer service peer assessment and biscuit design sheets
A bundle of CSI and other fun STEM style investigations, including food detectives, crash testing lego cars, what do acids dissolve at a crime scene, and CSI style crash investigations
