Since many sight words can’t be sounded out with phonics or have unusual spelling patterns, teaching recognition of these words increases reading fluency and comprehension.

Do you have a few spare minutes for review? You can play the Ice Cream Themed PowerPoint and have the students call out the words. As the word flashes on the screen, they say the word. They love it. I set the slide settings for two seconds. They love seeing how fast they can read the words. Another idea: If you want to keep the students busy for 15-20 minutes of quiet time in your room.
