This is a timely subject and one that we need to emphasize with our students. During this trying time please enjoy this unit with my complements and Pay it Forward if you are able.

This unit may be used for both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. You will find a brief history of each day and book suggestions. There are appropriate activities for each celebration including certificates, comprehension questions,instructions for a simple corsage and buttonhole. If you would like to host a classroom party there are suggestions and a timetable.

In this unit students will have fun patterning with pizza toppings and learning about simple fractions. They will compare the mysterious little man with characters from other stories. Nutritious breakfasts are discussed and compared with breakfasts around the world. Students will also be made aware of how business can be affected by economic factors in the community. Lots of activities and learning.

Children’s Book Week is traditionally celebrated in May – although I believe that every week is Children’s Book Week! What better way to celebrate than with a unit featuring the beloved story of Madeline. She will help your students learn about rhyming words, character and setting, all about the number 12, introduction to time – and so much more.

This book is based on a familiar song and is a wonderfully predictable book for beginning readers. Children are able to join in and develop actions to go along with the song. It has many possibilities for activities. In this unit there are ideas for model building, bus ticket designs, attributes for buying Winter jackets. Students are encouraged to discuss, make lists, keep records of observations and compose new songs. Fun activities that students will enjoy while learning new skills.

The Tree in Me is a stunning new book by Corinna Luyken which can be enjoyed on so many levels. This book, and the activities chosen to accompany it, is an excellent product for many age groups. Young students will enjoy the simple poetic prose, the pictures and the concepts offered. Older students will enjoy delving into deeper connections and exploring ways to pay attention to how we feel inside, and how we connect with the natural world. In this unit you will find ideas and handouts for your students to enjoy and have fun learning.
