Spanish GCSE: Writing mat. Theme 1 (Identity and culture): Me, my family and friends.

(0)
This double-sided mat provides the students of all abilities with a lot of useful language to support them when writing about themselves, their family and friends and their relationships. Page one contains a lot of vocabulary (nouns, adjectives, conjunctions, time phrases and intensifiers) as well as a series of scaffolding structures (“sentence starters”). The second page contains twelve key verbs conjugated in the first person singular (yo) in six different tenses (the preterite, the imperfect, the present, the future, the conditional and the present subjunctive). Finally, there is also a section on complex structures on the second page, with plenty of examples of comparatives and superlatives, conditional sentences (“si fuera…”) and negative sentences. (Note - please ignore the preview of the Word file, there is an ongoing issue with Word previews in TES; the file looks like the PDF shows)

5 Resources
This bundle includes four resources to support Spanish GCSE students prepare for their writing exam: Vocabulary booklet: a booklet with a lot of key vocabulary for each theme and topic of the new GCSE course, as well as a summary of the key exam rubrics and useful expressions. Grammar booklet: this resource includes in fact two different versions of the same booklet (one of them an abridged version of the other one) that provide a very detailed overview of the key aspects of the grammar covered in the GCSE course, with plenty of examples and activities for the students. 90-word and 150-word question booklets: these two resources (one of them a TES PICK resource) contain twenty four questions each that follow the format of the 90-word and the 150-word questions in the new Spanish GCSE writing exam. They cover all three themes of the AQA specification, but can be easily adapted to other exam boards. In each booklet there are eight questions for each theme, and they can be used in lessons, but also as an easy way to set useful homework activities for the students. Complex structures guide, to encourage stronger candidates to work independently to include more ambitious structures in their written work.

Getting to know my tutor group / my class - Back to school / Induction day activity (Ice breaker)

(0)
A quick activity to use on the first session with a new tutor group (ideally with a group in which students don’t know each other previously). Students wander around the classroom finding people who meet a series of requirements (e.g. “Find three people who hate Justin Bieber” or “Find one person who has more pets than you”). If used with a vertical tutor group you can instruct students to not talk to other students in the same year group. And with a year 7 class they can be told to avoid people in their year group.
