Scanning Game (Starter / Plenary)

(0)
A fun game that helps to improve students’ ability to scan for information. Can be used as a stater / plenary. HOW TO PLAY Students are given a printed sheet containing a grid of 225 words. The teacher then reads out a statement from one of the 100 provided, such as: “Find something with a long nose”. The students must then scan through their sheet and find a correct word, such as “elephant”. The student who finds a correct word the fastest gains a point. The student who receives a total of ten points first is the winner of the game. Whilst answering it is usually best for the students’ to place their finger on the answer and then to put their hand up for the teacher to check. (Otherwise I have found that they tend to shout out an answer without identifying it on the sheet!) Can be played individually or in small groups.
