Welsh Celtic Art Block Printing

(0)
This lesson is a complete session on block printing. Using Polyblock, a polystyrene tile, to create a unique piece of printed work. It introduces the work of Jean Philippe Arthur Dubuffet (31 July 1901 – 12 May 1985) French painter and sculptor who used block printing to create his work. It askes the learners to discuss and evaluate his work using a set of questions. Using this as a starting point for block printing the learners are then asked to look at Welsh Celtic art, create their own, and create a block print of their work. With very few resources this lesson is simple to do and gives learners an introduction to block printing. The resources required are minimal, only needing a polystyrene tile, pen, print roller and ink. With these the learners can create a unique piece of block printed art work.

This is ideal when teaching newly arrived learners to the UK and can help in working out what languages the new learner might speak. Use it on the white board or as a handout for learners and support staff.

Strategies for teaching boys

Strategies for teaching boys

(0)
This is a page of various strategies that can help boys achieve more. The New Welsh Curriculum expects independent and resilient learners so this may help when planning lessons. Raising standards in boys has always been challenging but experience and research has shown me that it is all about engagement. Every learner needs to be a participant in their own learning and as teachers we need to be facilitators for this. Sitting at the front of the classroom expecting learners to engage does not work with our multi media smart phone learners. These tips will help any teacher engage with their learners.
