Twenty years as Spanish and French teacher, specialist in Latin American culture, particularly film and Literature. My resources are very creative and students find themselves developing curiosity about the culture as well as being challenged to take risks with the language. They are engaging for the teacher too and they will inject some fun in to your lessons if like me you like to be creative and encourage your students not to play it safe. They do link to assessment requirements too.

Les excuse de petit Nicolas-foray in to literature

New GCSE and 'literature', we are doing education with Y7 so I have created this reading skills focussed ppt using extracts from les excuses de petit Nicolas Use of white boards and an element of competition stops it from being too teacher led and the great thing about Nicolas is if they like him he can come up again- we are doing les vacances with Y8 so we might add in a petit Nicolas on holiday extract

Boys really loved the Parcour lesson and I have never got so much speaking done with a Y8 class jsut by talking about extreme sports instead of conventional sports. Show them the clip at the start of Casino Royale before doing either of the reading tasks and you will be very popular too. first reading task is in English-team speed reading challenge then you can opt to do the one in French as well or instead.

Perdidos or the Spanish version of lost

Knicked the idea from GCSE text book and then created a whole series of resources around a group of Spanish speaking characters marooned on an island. You can then do daily routine of the survivors, water sports rather than conventional sports/Who caused the plane to crash and why/ who is having an affair with who and so on-relationships. It lends itself to anything you like in the end. Suddenly boring topics become more fun and students have really run with the idea. will add more of my stuff on this soon

I created a whole SOW around the idea that Y9 were making a low budget latin american version of LOST-see KS$ GCSE textbook for Edexcel for original idea. So when we do sports we do water sports and introduce them via likes and dislikes before introducing more conventional sports

la mode for listening skills

Not particularly original but emphasis on developing listening skills so you might want to take a look. I have added the assessment that we do at the end of the unit so you can see what the listenings are leading up to. Not a brilliant test but you might find it useful and or infinitely adaptable. The peer listening activity where students adapt dialogue and then read it out to another pair for speaking and listening practice works well if set up right.

As the topic of where you live can be a bit boring we get our students to do presentations on a Latin American capital city-great practice for orals and good cultural input. In fact it could become a CA if you wanted it to. In the build up we use some or all of these resources. When they are doing the presentations the rest of the class have to fill in a listening grid, can be devised by students.
Superheroes for comparison

Superheroes for comparison

We do a Super hero project in term 2 to get students describing what someone looks like, hence these resources are all about superheroes. Really works, especially with boys. it culminates with an assessment in which they describe a super hero and a villain of choice, can make up their own. Looks/personality/comparisons/personal info/likes and dislikes with nouns.

Quite a challenging reading task for Y9, but do insist they don't mindlessly tick boxes but have to make a note of new language. I get them to use the language in order to then write a lengthy paragraph about cinema going habits and preferences. I have got them to ask and answer the questions in pairs as well.

Relationships and helping around the house

Not the most inspiring of topics. The grammar summary is aimed at my class in particular but you might find it useful and it is easy to adapt to a different context that might be more relevant. The quien manda is a reading but I need to re-add questions/tasks so will you. Cinderella brings together talking about relationships with imperfect and present tense and helping around the house.

This is the right version to look at. I shared the wrong ppt last time so it would not have made sense. It was used to prepare students for a Controlled assessment on giving advice and health issues Worked really well and generated some lively discussion

I shared a lesson plan on giving advice with accompanying documents and then received a comment which made me have another look. This is in fact the full lesson plan ppt that goes with those resources, sorry about the mistake.

This goes with article about legal age of consent and problems facing young people. I think they will respond to the A level style theme. Much more fun than doing what is your daily diet and do you get enough exercise.

Are they in too much of a hurry to grow up?

This was created after a student in my Y11 class asked at what age you can drink in Spain. I am always looking for ways in to topics that give them a flavour of A Level and we were just about to start the health topic when it occured to me to link the idea of health issues and youth problems to legal age of consent and the fact that young people are in too much of a hurry to grow up.

I have done this as a running reading. Students have the reading sheet in teams. They all get the first question, find the answer and Number one comes up with answer written down to collect the next question. Wrong answer and they have to go back and re-confer. Everyone in team has to take it in turns to come up. If you have not tried this as a way of getting them to work on a text do have a go.
