French subjunctive or indicative activities and worksheet No prep printable activities and worksheet to practice both forming the present subjunctive and knowing when to use the subjunctive vs. the indicative. Included: ☞ Subjunctive or indicative expressions list ☞ Quizlet study set link to review and master the material ☞ 42 cards to practice forming and using either the subjunctive or the indicative ☞ Worksheet for assessment Print and distribute the expressions list and make sure everyone understands what they mean. Share the quizlet study set with your students and have them practice and review when to use the subjunctive vs. the indicative. Print and cut out the cards. There is one set with two possible answers provided that you can use in the beginning. The other set doesn’t provide a choice of answers, so it is more challenging. Have students work individually, in pairs or in small groups. If you don’t want to print and cut out, use the files that have only one card per page on the projector or tablets, etc. Use the worksheet in class, as homework, or as a quiz. Answer key is provided. ❖ La Technologie- Technology - Discussion ciblée - French themed conversation questions ❖ Part of our series of “discussions ciblées”. List of 35 vocabulary words related to the water’s edge Includes 20 discussion questions. The questions are suitable for upper level and AP French or for high school French immersion. This resource is especially useful for your chapter on technology. The questions are thorough and thought provoking. I like to print the list of words on one side of a page and the questions on the other side so that students can easily refer to the new vocabulary during their conversations. If you make a two sided copy everything will fit on one page. Also included is a set of speaking cards for students to use prior to using the discussion cards so that they can become familiar with the theme and many new words. The cards just need to be printed and cut out so that your students can use them in pairs or small groups. Each card says, “Décris le mot suivant en français et ton partenaire le devinera.” The vocabulary word is written both in French and English since many of the words will be new. Estar present tense When you are teaching or reviewing the verb ESTAR in the present tense, your students will have a great time practicing with this hands on game: ¡Qué pena! This is a review game in which students play by filling in the blanks with the verb in parentheses (estar) in the present tense. An answer key is included. The verb estar is essential to forming a strong base knowledge of Spanish, yet it can be difficult to master without lots of practice and review. You can pull this game out time and time again over the course of the years for a no-prep activity. Detailed instructions on how to play are included so that even subs can have your students play this fun game when you need to be away. How to play ¡Qué pena!: All you have to do is print the numbered game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out. If you laminate them you’ll have a no prep activity ready to go for years to come! Put all of the game cards in a box and divide your students into small teams. Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key. Students must fill in the blanks by conjugating the indicated verb, and then speak the sentence correctly. When they are correct (their opponents or team members can verify responses on the provided answer key), they get to keep their game card. English forehead guessing vocabulary game This forehead guessing game is very simple. It includes 55 cards with pictograms representing an object, an action or an animal. This version is a mishmash of themes. How to play: From 2 to 10 players. Make two or more teams, the team with the youngest player starts the game. Draw a card and without looking at it, show it to other members of your team. If possible, place it on his forehead with an adhesive. The player who draws the card must ask questions in order to guess what is on the card. The other members of the team answer only by “YES”, “NO” or “sometimes” or another word that can guide his or her teammates. No gestures or noises are allowed. Paired or Group Speaking Game - No, because… What is this game? A guessing game to get your students speaking! This game is similar to (but more challenging than) the game of twenty questions. Number of players: Two people or a small group. It can be challenging, so I recommend this game for grades 6 and higher. What is included: 50 playing cards How to play: This game is very simple, but you really need to explain how it works for students to play it correctly and not turn it into a 20 questions type of game. One player thinks of an object and the other players try to guess what it is. Each card has an image of a person, place, or a thing. The person holding the card is the one who will do the most speaking. The other people in the group will simply ask questions like “Is it a _____?” All they can ask is if the image on the card is a particular noun. The person holding the card has to answer by saying, “No, it’s not a ____ because……” Examples: Player 1 is holding a card and sees an image of a banana. Player 2 says something like, “Is it a shoe?” Player 1 has to respond by starting out with saying something like “No, because it’s not something you wear.” Player 2 guesses another specific noun, and then another. He or she might say “Is it a chair?” Player 1 might say "No, because you don’t sit on it. Player 2 continues to guess, and might say “Is it a car?” Player 1 might say “No, because you don’t drive it.” Player 2 continues to guess, and might say “Is it broccoli?” Player 1 might say “No, because it’s sweeter.” Player 2 might say “Is it an apple?” Now that Player 2 has guessed a fruit, he’s pretty close. Player 1 can now say something like “No, but it is a fruit.” Player 2 now just starts guessing different fruits until he or she gets it. This can be a challenging game that requires a good amount of thought, and you really have to tell your students who are guessing that they can’t ask question about what’s on the card. They can ONLY ask if it’s a specific noun. The player holding the card can’t answer YES or NO. They really need to remember that their response has to begin with NO, BECAUSE… This is a fun game that will really get your students speaking, and you’ll love hearing them as they play it!

All of the words on the cards are in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students. This French Taboo game includes the following: How to play classic Taboo (beginner and advanced levels) 30 Taboo game cards to print, cut out and laminate if possible (black and white and color versions) How to play 15 MINUTES MAX - an alternative version of the game 15 MINUTES MAX game board Sheet to record new words in French and English (nouveaux mots) *In the upper left corner there's a spot for you to punch holes in the cards so that you can then attach them with a ring for no prep use every time. Be sure to laminate if at all possible! Object of the game: One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

Be sure to laminate if at all possible! Object of the game: One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can’t use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

Keep your middle school and high school students active by playing the TWO EXTREMES game. The facilitator will use a stack of cards listing things, activities or places that fall at opposite ends of the spectrum, such as: salty or sweet, London or New York, Mac or PC. The students start standing in a big group, but when each choice is read, they move to the side of the room that the facilitator indicates is associated with their choice (see the arrows on the cards). Those who can’t make up their mind or don’t have a preference remain in the center. Students will see all of the things that they have in common with their classmates and will likely learn some new vocabulary while they’re at it! These cards are great for middle school or high school and can be used at any time, especially when everyone needs a break and needs to stand up and move around a bit. This activity requires no teacher prep once the set of cards is printed and cut out. Don’t want to print or don’t have time to do so? That’s ok!
