I am a former Head teacher , teacher of Geography and PSHE in French, teacher of Geography in English and other subjects . I used CLIL to improve standards at 3 schools when in a leadership position. I also delivered assemblies and INSET hence the resources included . June 16th 2023 I uploaded the results of 18 years of CLIL and how it has improved progress and attainment across all subjects in schools not just languages. A wonderful way to improve schools. CLIL Geography in German Tropical Rainforests Lesson 8-10Who has killed the Orangutans in Indonesia

This will probably last for a couple of lessons as there are video clips to view and an analysis of the plight of the orangutans . Students work in groups to develop a campaign to save the orangutans . Students can be shown examples of real campaigns such as those to save the Sumatran rainforest by the RSPB. Students need to understand that a good campaign has to identify the causes of the problem and the solutions. Both of these aspects need to be contained in materials produced by the students .

CLILWeather and Climate Geography in French Lesson 11 part 2 :The mystery of Reunion's climate

There are two powerpoints available . This one in part 2 has an introduction in english , the other one only contains French and is in part 3. There are cards to match explanations to the climate related observation. The idea of this lesson is that you have just arrived in Reunion and observe landscape and cultural clues all around you and you have to make sense of these features to explain them. This is a reat task to use to apply learning about climate concepts such as altitude , distance from the sea, albedo , rain shadows etc .

CLIL Geography in German Mapwork Lesson 8 Using OS maps to design a tour for a German family

(0)
Students use their local OS map to research and design a tour for a German family. They need to carry out internet research to find out prices and details of the attractions . A key part of the assessment is the presentation at the end when students show their leaflet and describe how they coped with using German . There is therefore much metacognition which helps the others in the class to learn. Peer, self and teacher feedback strengthen the process. Students love this assessment .

CLIL Geography in German Mapwork Lesson 3 Map symbols Bingo

Start with the concept of what a symbol is , then follow up with the activity where students identify the symbols . They can write the answers into the handbook. There is a video of this activity happening in a French Geog lesson in the resource in the pedagogy section of my shop. It is a video from Chenderit school. The cards for the card sort and bingo symbols cards are within the powerpoint . So they can be printed off.

CLIL Geography in French Deserts Unit overview

This unit was part of a Year 8 year long course with lessons taught for an hour a week. It was the first unit of the year and followed on from the Tropical rainforest unit of Year 7 . This was a good follow on because the tropical rainforest unit contains links to climate and adapatation and so the students were familiar with some concepts and vocabulary . The unit consists of many interactive activities, video clips and two very motivating assessments , one where students produce a humourous leaflet about desert survival and the other where they design an imaginary desert animal to survive in a desert environment. Students are challenged by many thinking skills . There are exemplars of student work .
