Pride Month LGBT Picture Reveal Quiz - 20 Questions Group Points Game KS3 / KS4. Catchphrase PSHE

(0)
This game is similar to the popular Catchphrase game. If the team answers the question correctly, then the box disappears and a section of a picture appears. I created this game as a final lesson for Pride Month. The questions are aimed at secondary school aged learners. Answers are included. Instructions Split the students into equal teams. Twenty questions will appear on the board. The aim of the game is for each group to answer the questions correctly and to correctly identify the three LGBTQ+ celebrities that are hidden behind the boxes. Each team, when it is their go, will pick a question that they want to answer. They will say the number assigned to this question. If the teams gets the question right, then the teacher will click on the box and the box will then disappear. A section of one of the ‘hidden’ picture will then be revealed. The team can then take a guess to who this celebrity is. Each question that’s answered correctly is worth 1 point! If the hidden celebrity is correctly identified by the team, then this is worth five points! The team with the most points, wins! The good thing about the game is that even if the pictures are correctly identified, the teams can carry on playing the game to obtain points.

Functional Skills English L1 Reading, Writing & Speaking and Listening Activity / Practice Test

This is a Functional Skills practice test / activity booklet. To make this fun for my class I based the activities on a conspiracy theory: the flat Earth theory. The first task is a practice test with ten questions ( answers are provided). These are similar questions to what they may be asked on their reading exam. Students will read a source document which includes information on the flat Earth theory. The second activity is a writing task and the learner will be asked to write an article for their collage magazine. They will write an article that informs people about this theory and also will give their own views on the subject. The last activity is a speaking and listening activity, where the learner will prepare and take part in a group debate based on this topic. This is good practice for their upcoming exam.

In the exam, learners are expected to both read and spell certain words correctly. The NCFE created a list of common words that are often mis-spelt and which E3 learners need to learn to prepare for their spelling test. Each card has the phonics sound symbol on the card with an example of a word containing that sound underneath. The letters underlined within these words correspond to the sound symbol and these letters need special attention for spelling. You could add an extension activity and get the learner to create a sentence which includes each word.
