GCSE Poetry Anthology Revision: Recalling Poems and Key Quotes Practice. Power & Conflict

I created this PPT as my students were struggling with recalling quotes from the anthology. I found four different exam style questions and decided to make this task. It helps them to think on their feet when choosing a poem to compare theirs to, to see examples of questions that they could get in their exam and also tests them on whether they can recall quotes under pressure. I asked them to do the following: Read the exam question and think of a poem that you can compare this poem to. Write down why you would use this poem as a comparison. Read the question again and write down one quote you would use in your response when comparing these poems.

Overview of Lesson Starter Activity Pupils to read the information the sheet on their tables and will write down three key facts about the painting. The pupils will have a few minutes to summarise the information on their table’s fact sheet. They will pick out three main points about the painting they have been given and this will be shared when the painting is introduced in the story. Later on in the lesson, once the painting is introduced, the teacher will ask a particular table to give the rest of the class three facts about the painting. Each table will be learning about one out of the five paintings. Teaching and Learning Activities The teacher will read a short story to the class which is entitled: Katie and the British Artists. She will read through the book and stop the story when a new painting is introduced. The table who has summarised that painting’s factsheet, will then relay three facts about the painting to the rest of the class. Once the story is finished, the class will be able to ask any questions that they have. They will also be asked which painting was their favourite and why. The day’s task will then be introduced: pick a painting we have discussed and draw yourself inside of the painting. There will be five paintings to choose from, with each one being mentioned in the story. The pupils will be told that the focus of this lesson is on their drawing skills. They need to draw in the style of the artist they choose by replicating their work. They also need to decide where in their drawing they will place themselves and how this may affect the focus of the picture.

This is a template to cut around for your learners to create their Jubilee own mask. This is an image or Elizabeth ll’s face. The size when cut out should mask the perfect sized mask, My learners cut around the face and cut out the picture’s eyes. We then threaded a piece of thin elastic either side of the mask to wear a mask. This is perfect for our upcoming jubilee party.

A PPT and worksheet that I used to introduce the KS3 class to poetry. I have started off with an easy poem and then throughout the lesson taught them skills in how to analyse the poem. Some information contained in this slide has been taken from free resources available on TES. Thank you for sharing your resources.

This PPT was used as part of a revision session. I displayed a piece of context on the interactive white board from the PPT. Each piece related to one of the fifteen poems in the anthology. We read through the slide as a class and they were then asked which poem the information related to. They would then write the contextual information in their exercise books to be used for revision purposes. The information is off free resources I found during Google searches. I then compiled it into this PPT.
