Some topics are more difficult to explain in simple terms than others. Why not try an analogy?
When working with an expression such as 5a+2-3a, some students may not consider 2a+2 as a correct answer and may think that they ALWAYS need a SINGLE term e. g. 4a. The analogy used in this worksheet should help with these common misconceptions. It consists of 12 differentiated questions where students can identify and collect like terms.

In the video you can learn how to introduce the concept of expressing numbers by powers of 2 / primes in fun and easy way. Ready to print cards are attached. I used them as a starter to my lesson on prime factorisation. Remember to write down the numbers from the top left corners in the back of your cards!

Perfect to use with the worksheet version: Input&Output Worksheet
This fun worksheet is based on a flow chart of different types of equations. It’s a great resource to revise strategies used to solve equations, starting from fractional equations, equations with brackets, equations with the unknown on the both sides and finishing with a classic two-step equation. The resource should be printed double sided and folded inside along four dotted lines (see instructions how to fold the resource). When closed, the types of four equations are visible. To see the steps how to solve one of them, you can simply unfold one of the four corners. The arrows inside indicate the direction to follow the next step.
ⓘ If you prefer your students to fill in the steps, print the second version.
✔ Don’t miss out: the worksheet unable to revise useful vocabulary in algebra too!
This fun worksheet consists of 58 questions where students can practise and improve their algebra skills. The resource is divided into two levels.
Notice: for each expression, there are only some squares required to fill in.
