This resource contains a planning sheet with a unit of work for you to use or select lessons or activities from. Planning includes LOs, assessment, resources, activity ideas, curriculum links etc. Suitable of EYFS/ KS1 and SEND. Symbols are used - Boardmaker Licenced. The resources come in black and white and are replicated in colour. There is a poster showing a collection of things that make sounds to discuss and use for a stimulus for further activities. There are 13 worksheets each showing 8 symbols of things that make a sound such as a whistle or a car crash. Children write under each picture the activity or a word that might describe the sound e.g. an ‘accident’ or ‘crash’. Introduce children to the concepts of Sounds all around and that of onomatopoeia.

This is a fun game to play supporting your work on phonics and initial sounds. Lots of speaking and listening and thinking involved where the answers may not be so obvious as with the X slide where the pictures are things containing an x. There is a slide for each letter of the alphabet and 10 pictures on each slide. Children name the pictures and can say a phrase or sentence for each one. Differentiate by asking the children to name specific pictures dependent on their ability or levels. Press and the answers will fly in on command. You could extend this activity by asking the children to write a list for each of the letters of the alphabet and the answers can then be checked. Children could work in pairs or small groups or on their own. The picture cards can also be printed and cut out and then sorted or matched to the original slides.
