Knights and castles story template KS1 Historical story planning template. A resource for pupils to use to plan their own ‘Knights and castles’ story writing. Includes a bullet point reminder of the rules for writing historical stories and spaces for pupils to develop character description, setting and ideas for the structure of their story. Great to use following a History writing lesson, a visit to a castle or topic related drama lesson. Can also be adapted for most History topics eg: Norman Castles, Explorers, Travel, Romans, Egypt, Saxon Britain etc.

KS1 & 2 powerpoint lesson about Sun Safety. Written mainly for KS1 but can be easily adapted. Powerpoint of 18 slides which promotes small group and paired discussion about sun safety. Can be used as a complete lesson or adapted for an assembly. The first slides look at fun in the sun and lead into some simple facts about the sun following a short paired talk session to assess pupil knowledge. Pupils are encouraged to look at different photographs of the sun and describe features. There is a very simple slide on Vitamin D and UV rays linked to health. The children can discuss how to protect themselves in the sun and when to wear sunscreen. The final slides include an example of a sun safety poster which pupils can use as a basis to design their own for the rest of the school (and which can be used as an assessment of their learning).

Ancient Rome KS2 power-point of 24 slides. Learning Objectives • I must explain where the Romans came from using geographical vocabulary. • I should retell the legend of Romulus and Remus • I could explain BCE and AD • I could order a timeline of Ancient Rome from 753BCE to 79AD. Includes activities for pupils to locate Rome/Italy using an atlas, a simple story of how Rome was founded, timeline activity to distinguish BCE and CE. Useful to link in with topics on The Roman Empire, Time, Calendars, Beginnings.

KS1/KS2 Matching pairs character cards. Set of 48 cards (24 pairs) for pupils. Useful for matching and pairing games, stimulating language and for book quizzes. Cut each picture, laminate or cover and pupils can use the cards more than once. Alternatively, the images can be used for pupils to use as part of a glue/stick activity. Images include the names of paired characters from books and movies for example: Pumba and Timon, Romeo and Juliet, Peter Pan and Wendy, Dr Who and the Daleks.

Includes a bullet point reminder of the rules for writing horror stories and spaces for pupils to develop descriptive words and phrases, scary setting , cliff-hangers and the structure of their story. Great to use following a horror writing lesson or drama. Can also be used with topics : Halloween, Night, Feelings.

EYFS/KS1 school trip template. Simple layout and prompts help pupils create a short review of a school outing or visit with pictures or text. Useful as a follow up to visits when asking pupils to remember sequencing of events, specific aspects of learning and summarising their own views.

Improving inference skills for reading. KS1 pack of 34 short activities. Each story activity is based around a simple everyday task or activity. The information is implied within the text to encourage pupils to extract meaning from clues and draw conclusions. I wrote these activities to help my class of Y1 pupils improve their ability to extract relevant information from text but I have also used them with older and SEN pupils. Can be used as a lesson warm up with the whole class, in a small guided group or with a target group and a TA. 12 Short story paragraphs (What is happening?) with prompts to develop pupil understanding of meaning within text based upon a character’s behaviour, conversation or actions. 10 short story paragraphs with prompts to develop pupil understanding of where people are or where something happened through inferred conversation and description. 12 picture prompt/ choices for pupils to extract an action or activity (using picture and text clues) linked to a simple question or sentence.

Each lesson is broken into short focused activities. There are opportunities for pupils to recall prior learning, participate in a short quiz, take notes from a YouTube clip, scrutinise and compare population graphs and weather charts (included on slides), research native animals and use maps and atlases to locate Egypt’s key cities and geographical features. Each set of slides contain images to help pupils ‘get a feel’ for the geography of Egypt as well as simple cultural information such as greetings in Egyptian Arabic at the beginning and end of lessons. Space to write a short summary, draw a favourite character and rate the illustrations and text difficulty. Great to use in a class library for pupils to share ideas about their favourite fiction and non -fiction texts.

Powerpoint of the most well-known of Aesop’s proverbs. KS2. 20 slides of images for pupils to work out the proverb. Each slide stimulates discussion to help pupils understand the meaning of Aesop’s messages. The full powerpoint can be used as a stimulus for a lesson exploring proverbs or specific slides can be selected to focus on proverbs or meanings linked to a specific lesson or topic eg RE, History, PE.

Circle Time. Let’s talk! Nursery and Reception Early Years Powerpoint lesson to guide a Nursery and/or Reception group or class through a Circle time introductory lesson. Can be used as one lesson or split into a series of introductions/lesson starters. 26 slides which include sitting arrangements, rules, simple starter questions and examples to share with the children. I have used a teddy bear in the lesson so it would be useful to have a teddy for the children to hold as the circle time progresses. There is a simple ‘I spy’ game including images of Noah’s Ark, a bowl of fruit, vegetables and the seaside. The lesson provides useful prompts to encourage the children to talk, structure answers to questions and offer information about themselves.
