Four lantern designs are included: Peace, Love, Hope and the symbol of Peace. These units are created in a Mix and Match format. On the back of the flower embellishments have the kids write a sentence about what Peace Is. I love reading Todd Parr's book...Peace Is. In Intermediate Grades, teach the kids the art of Zen Tangles. Have them create beautiful patterns and tangles. On the back of the flowers, get the kids to research the different wars...record the name of the war and the death toll. I always find it shocking the number of people who have died to keep us safe. We shall never forget... In High School, especially in Grade 11 Socials, get the kids to research one of the wars or peace keeping missions. Either have them draw on or behind the words images of peace/war. Use the flowers or their own symbols of peace to add notes about their research. . There are so many different possibilities. Each Easter Bunny lantern creation is designed with a printed lantern template and a blank template. This lantern can be completed with primary grades. However, I strongly recommend teaching and creating each part individually, then putting the whole creation together. With my Kindergartens, I do one step at a time. I like to use shorter teaching sessions so that these cuties do not become an overwhelming project. Now that my Kindergarten have created many lanterns, they are experts and do not need as detailed step by step instructions. Once completed they love making the bunnies hop all around the room.
