This lesson is the second in my SOW following William of Normandys ascension to the English throne in 1066. The lesson focuses heavily on exam technique (4 mark describe) and source inferences (6 mark OCR). The lesson explores the reasons for the Normans Harrying of the North and details the impact this had on helping William keep control of England in 1066. The lesson has a variety of tasks that will take you beyond an hour and a suggested homework with a focus on bias and demonstrating knowledge acquired in the lesson is also provided. This lesson has been created for KS3 secondary history students and covers the End of WW1. This lesson has been created on Microsoft Powerpoint and has an optional accompanying Word Document for students to record their answers on. Additional resources have been created on Powerpoint and Teacher Notes & Answers have been added to the notes section of each relevant slide on the Powerpoint. This resource is a group activity. Students are engaged in a relay race against time and other groups to retrieve the information as to how and why the First World War ended in 1918. Students will identify events and turning points that resulted in victory for for the allies and more importantly, why Germany lost the war. This lesson includes exam technique (AQA 4 mark question) to consolidate learning and an optional 8 mark question which students can complete for homework. This lesson covers opposition to Roosevelt’s New Deal (New AQA Specification) with another acronym to make it memorable. The lesson allows students to demonstrate their learning through an 8 mark question (Progress 8) . with opportunity to self assess their answer.

This includes assessment for the new style questions 1 - 3 (and Q4 to bring the paper out of 20). 2 interpretations on women are offered and the 3 new style questions to accompany. In addition the paper also incorporates a feedback and review lesson helping students (and teachers convert grades to the new 1 - 9 grades based on percentages. This is the grading system we have created for the use in my history dept. It also offers a conversion back to old levels and old lettered GCSE grades to help students understand their new grades better. Also attached is an alternative assessment I used with my Y9s which asks students to answer Q4 & 5 style questions. The assessment is for students who have been studying Paper 1D AQA new spec - economic boom and the roaring 1920s.

This lesson details the progression from Motte and Bailey Castles to Stone Keep Castles in Medieval Britain. The lesson contains a 4 mark describe question to reflect on prior learning. The content covers the structure and features of stone keep castle and then looks further (through means of a carousel activity) advantages and disadvantages of stone keep castles. This would lead well to insert a Paper 1 ‘Interpretations Q’ for the new Spec AQA paper.

This lesson explores 8 different types of weaponry used by soldiers/armies during WW1. Students will discover how each was weapon was used and, explore the pros and cons of each and make justified conclusions of the effectiveness of these weapons. The lesson also allows student the opportunity to practice exam style PEEL paragraphs as well as looking at the Time, Author, Purpose, Place of sources as per the new exam spec (AQA). There is more than enough content in this pack to cover more than one lessons and resources can easily be adapted to make simpler for lower ability students. Students uncover the sequence of events during the battle, they encounter a codebreaker task and look at some of the imagery of the Bayeux tapestry. This lesson looks at how William the Conqueror tried to maintain control of England following his 1066 invasion by introducing and implementing the Feudal System. The lesson looks at what a feudal system was/is and compares it in the modern day context. They offer excellent source analysis support for teachers new to the topic. This resource is Lesson 2 in my Holocaust scheme of work. It’s aim is to explore the ways in which the Nazi’s used propaganda and stereotyping to humiliate and discredit the Jewish race in German society. This is to help students begin to understand how the Nazis then were able to turn society against the Jewish people and other minority groups which then paved the way towards Holocaust and eventual mass murder. This lesson is very heavily focused on working on students source analysis and interpretation skills using antisemitic propaganda that was distributed by the Nazi party in German society in the 1930’s. This lesson includes suggested learning objectives and outcomes and has been designed to be taught over the course of one hour - although it may run over. A well presented lesson on the capture of slaves. Students are engaged through detailed, well presented resources. For this lesson ROOTs is required. Students find an engaging way to learn about the route slave capture through classroom discussion. Students then prose their own enquiry questions about slave capture. Students watch the extract from ROOTs before and including the capture of Kunte Kinte up until his incarceration on the beach. Students then answer their own enquiry questions. Students reflect and develop their written empathy skills by writing a diary extract. Students are to focus on including both key historical terminology learnt in lesson 1 but also improve their vocabulary using some of the words provided.

This lesson introduces students to the idea of the stock market and how it works -initially through a brief video and followed by a game students can play independently/in pairs or in groups/ were students can experience the stock market. Exam technique covered in this lesson is the 4 mark question. Although this lesson is designed for the new spec it could easily work with the old spec too. Speculation on the stock market is a really difficult concept for students to understand. To fully understand the causes of the wall street crash they need to be able understand how the stock market works and the risk involved. All resources provided for the game.
