Includes a bullet point reminder of the rules for writing horror stories and spaces for pupils to develop descriptive words and phrases, scary setting , cliff-hangers and the structure of their story.

Theseus and the Minotaur Bundle

Theseus and the Minotaur Diary example with 24 KS2 comprehension questions.
Set in pre 40AD, Theseus writes about his observations as he travels on his quest to slay the Minotaur. The diary is written in the first person and is separated into two main sections (Part 1: The quest to slay the Minotaur/ Part 2 : The return to Athens). Each part is broken into smaller, readable sections based upon location as Theseus travels through the myth. This recount demonstrates features of a diary and acts as a continuous recount of the event including Theseus’s personal feelings and points of view.
Can be used as a stimulus for Myths and Legends, creative writing and to identify the features and structure of diary writing or as a Recount Checklist activity.
Also attached are two sets of 12 comprehension questions relating to each of the two parts of the text.

I wrote this shorter version of the myth for a Year four reading group but it could be used with HA Y3, LA Y5 and Y6.

KS2 Years 4,5,6 - A series of 5 consecutive power-point lessons about the amazing country Australia (56 slides). Lesson 1 introduces the topic with visual clues using pupil’s own experiences as a starting point. The pupils are encouraged to use a Project Book to record their journey through each lesson. Lesson 2 focuses on the Australian territories, climate, landscape and capital and Lesson 3 uses seasonal rainfall and temperature data to enable pupils to compare, differentiate and analyse weather and climate between Australia and Britain. Scaffold for writing a jingle KS1 & 2
A simple scaffold to aid pupil writing. A scaffold of a poem which can be adapted by theme to support cross curricular writing or to develop a specific aspect of English such as alliteration, similes. Learning Objectives: Speaking & Listening: Increase contextual subject vocabulary. Ask relevant questions to extend subject knowledge. Explore ideas and participate in collaborative conversations.
Reading: Recognising poetry (narrative, cultural), discuss words & phrases which capture imagination, develop prediction from images and inference. Summarise main ideas.

The Powerpoint slides include a topic related vocabulary list for pupil use. There is a comprehensive lesson plan for teacher use at the end of the powerpoint on slides 14 and 15.
The lesson is created around the story of the Willow Pattern and the image of the plate to generate ideas and collaborative discussion. There are opportunities for pupils to read the poem, extend vocabulary, discuss the characters and watch a short clip of the story on Youtube before creating their own five box storyboard linked to their own collected vocabulary from the lesson.
This is the first in a series of three lessons on the Willow Pattern theme.

Who am I? blank template (mini fold out book)
Blank template book for pupils to use to think of information to describe a character. There is space in each box for one or two short facts. The information on each flap (box) can be structured according to the topic focus eg 1. describe the face 2. describe the eyes with an adjective or simile etc. when all of the boxes are opened they reveal the identity.
Can be used for biographies, historical figures, characters in stories, animals, science facts, numbers etc.
George Stephenson powerpoint
A chronological 39 slide power-point about the life of George Stephenson illustrated with simplified text and photographs. Many of the photographs have been taken from visits to George Stephenson's home area and linked museum visits. The power-point can be used to introduce a History unit in KS1 or 2 or used as a one off lesson. History detectives - KS1 Mystery powerpoint lessons (2)
History Detectives -The Mystery of the lost property/Petra the Rose City : Two complete power-point History lessons for pupils in KS1. Lesson one begins with a role play scenario asking pupils to solve a lost property mystery. Playtime: A series of four complete power-point lessons (52 slides) for pupils in KS1. Each lesson focuses on playtime and toys from the past including Roman, Elizabethan, Victorian times and present day. The lessons are interactive and include opportunities for the pupils to work in pairs or a small group to extract information from sources (photographs, paintings, video clips) ask questions, compare and record findings. Children will learn to play a range of playground games, small group games and role play games from each of the periods studied which they can transfer to their own playtime in school and teach their friends.
