PowerPoint introduces some simple Chinese words and greetings with visuals to show some different aspects of Chinese history and culture. Teacher can do a competition to split the class into two teams and the team that pronounces each word/phrase the best will get a point. The team with the most points, wins and gets a special prize. To practise, there is a role play with the pinyin for learners to do with their partner and take it in turns to be A and B. If learners are feeling confident, they can do it without the pinyin too. Choral repetition: Students are to listen to the teacher’s pronunciation and repeat. Choral repetition games (ideas!): Splat, Beat the Teacher, pronunciation competition between the two sides, guess the correct image, translation dictation exercise where teacher calls out a word/phrase in English and students are to write the Spanish and vice versa. Fill-in the gaps with the correct letters. Match-up task: Students are to match the Spanish with the English equivalent. Dialogue: Teacher to model the dialogue with a student. Then, students are to create their own dialogue with their partner. Independent work: Part 1: Vocabulary - students are to find the words in the wordsearch, then they are to translate them. Part 2: Translation - (i) students are to reorder the sentences, then translate them into English. - (ii) students are to translate the sentences into Spanish. Plenary: Students are to close their books and have their arms crossed. They will have 10 seconds before the sentence disappears on screen. Once it has disappeared, they are to write each sentence down. Challenge: See if they can translate the words/phrases into English too in the time allocated.
