Visual Discrimination Of Vowels Tracking And Reading
A set of tracking and reading activities to be completed over a period of 7 days. Each of the five vowels /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ and /u/ are tracked for individually. Then a collection of 3 letter words containing all 5 vowels need to be read. To read these words successfully the student needs to be able to discriminate between the 5 short vowels.
Topic 2 Short Vowel Door Activity
An activity to demonstrate and explain the concept of closed syllables. A closed syllable has at least one letter after the vowel /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ or /u/. The vowel is short and says its sounds as in /a/ for apple, /e/ for egg, /i/ for igloo, /o/ for octopus and /u/ for umbrella.

The sounds of /f/, /v/ and /th/ are often confused. This activity is aimed to help with hearing the differences in these sounds at the beginning, middle or end of the word… Common words are used to develop reading vocabulary.
Topic 8 S Blend Ladder Reading Activity
A reading activity incorporating all the 2 letter S Blends. Each ladder has words from the same 2 letter S blend and colour coding is used to help with word building skills. ladders are also provided where the student fills in the missing 2 letter S blend and ladders where the student has to write the entire word.
Topic 7 Discrimination Of /SH/, /CH/, /TH/ And /WH/ Activity
An activity geared towards the discrimination of the sounds /sh/, /ch/, /th/ and /wh/. 24 words are read and the student has to discriminate between the sounds. The student then has to write the word under the picture with the same sound and finally to check their own work.

These worksheets teach the 2 letter blends “sc, sk, sl, sm, sn, st, sp and sw“. Visual imagery, concept cards, colour coding to help with the different sounds units, word building skills and tracking skills are used to help teach these blends. Topic 12 Essential Words Leaping Frog Reading Activity
A reading activity to develop automatic recall of essential words needed to read fluently. Students gradually increase the number of words being read until there are 100 in total. The aim once the words are secure is to read all 100 in under 1 minute.
