This is a loop game made of 18 separate questions to help revise and understand acid, base and pH calculations as part of A level chemistry - for example in OCR A Chemistry module F325. This makes for an engaging plenary in lesson. I write the equations up on the left of the white board as they are read out and refer back to them in lesson. This is a lesson plan that has been designed and taught to year 8 students. It is taught early in the rock cycle scheme of work and uses salol. Glass rods are dipped in the salol and drops are put on warm, room temperature and cooled (in freezer) glass slides. Crystal size is measured and compared. A loop game I created for a high ability Year 8 class

This is a lesson designed for higher ability Key Stage 3 students on solubility. The lesson starts off with a key a question about how much sugar is in coffee. This linked to a news item about a famous coffee brand that has up to 25 teaspoons (100g) of sugar in one cup of coffee. Students then consider what a concentrated an dilute solution looks like in terms of the arrangement of their particles. Finally students need to use the printed spreadsheet to calculate the concentration of various drinks and suggest what could be done to dilute them. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

This document helps students and teachers track progress in A level chemistry (OCR A specification). It can easily be modified for any exam board or subject and would work well at KS4. Students record their progress on assessed homework and tests. There is space for teacher and student feedback.The 'medal&' and &';mission' comments are completed by the teacher. There is space to record intervention strategies for a particular module. For homework a percentage correct score is worked out and a grade given as follows: 60% = C, 70% = B, 80% = A. This is a lesson with grades D to B on molar gas volumes for AS Chemistry. The hook for the starter is to consider different types of fire extinguisher. Students then consider how they would calculate the volume of carbon dioxide produced from a CO2 extinguisher and 4 extinguishers that contain a solid that decomposes on heating to produce CO2. This is a worksheet on atom economy and percentage yield for GCSE chemistry (grade B+) that is printed as A4 handouts on atom economy and percentage yield. There are three reactions that all make Magnesium sulphate (Epsom salt) as the useful product and so atom economy can be compared along with issues such as toxicity of waste products or reactants. The YouTube video shows how Epsom salts are used in the garden. The formula for atom economy is included. The answers are not yet included and will be uploaded shortly. This is a lesson on using oxidation numbers to determine if a reaction is a redox reaction, disproportionation reaction or symproportionation reaction (opposite of disproportionation). Symproportionation is included to develop understanding and is not required by AS Chemistry specifications. The starter is the engaging visual elephant toothpaste demo. This is the 6th of my AFL strategies. Tarsia are an excellent and fun way of carrying out AFL. This is because the shape expected is generated if the correct answers are matched up. This is a personal learning checklist created for AS chemistry to check understanding of mole calculations. A comprehensive list of AS mole calculations is provided. Students identify what they can do after a lesson or homework as they progress through a topic. At the end both the student and teacher sign to say that the student can complete do these tasks. This is designed to be a laminated class set of photos and information on 12 rocks. On the reverse of each photo is a 'Did you know&' section which can be used to stimulate interest.

Templates are provided that can be readily modified. One template is a GCSE revision template where students are guided to create their own exam questions and peer edit answers. The second template is useful for writing Blooms-leveled answers at Key Stage 3 and includes a wordbank. The third is an AS Chemistry exam question with keyword glossary. All templates include written instructions for students. Peer editing is great when combined with AFL strategies before and after the activity.
