The setting description can be used as an independent write. It includes visuals and word banks to support EAL/SEN learners. The activity is based on describing the setting- Liam in Space using the 5 senses(see, smell, touch, taste, emotions of character in this setting and thoughts using adjectives or expanded nouns, powerful verbs and similes and figurative language and includes a success criteria. This lesson gives guidance on the best pedagogical approaches to use in the classroom such as AFL questions to gather what learners’ already know, the use of talk partners to share learning, allowing learners to choose their own task (this works wonders for their self esteem), differentiated tasks that are progressive from MILD to Spicy, Spicy to Hot and from HOT to Extra HOT and assessment at the end of the lesson against the success criteria to assess learning and inform future planning. Setting description (4 lessons) This is a 4 day DIFFERENTIATED English plan complete with success criteria’s for each day and accompanying resources and can be used as an independent write. It includes visuals and word banks to support EAL/SEN learners. The activity is based on describing the setting- Michael on the deck, in the storm using the 5 senses(see, smell, touch, taste, emotions of character in this setting and thoughts using adjectives or expanded nouns, powerful verbs and similes and figurative language and includes a success criteria. Lesson 1: To plan a description of a setting using expanded nouns. Lesson 2: To roleplay and jump into the setting and act out what is seen ,heard, smelt, touch,taste, feelings and thoughts.
