I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.

Spanish Verbs Abrir and Vivir and Image IDs Students must: 1. Filll in the blank with the correct conjugation of the either vivir or abrir 2. Translate the 8 sentences to English 3. Write a Spanish word under the 8 clip art images The sentences contain words that are either cognates or in a word bank. This activity works well for students new to verb conjugations and is good for back to school review for upper levels of Spanish. Both verbs are fully conjugated for student reference. The answer key is included.

Spanish Where Can I Swim 2 Emergent Readers - Donde Puedo Nadar? - One booklet contains text and images, the other contains text only so students can sketch and create their own versions of the booklets. Each booklet contains 8 pages: the title page with 7 additional pages containing puedo nadar with a body of water word. Words included are ocean, sea, river, pond, pool, waterfall, and lake. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first read and cut out the booklet that contains text and illustrations. They then sketch and create their own version using the text only template. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text.

This activity provides student practice with ser, descriptive adjectives, and llamarse. Each student interviews a classmate asking for the name and description of people such as his/her mother, father, favorite actor, Spanish teacher, pet, favorite grandma, etc. The interviewers record the responses and then rewrite the information in the 3rd person. A sample question/answer is: Question - Como se llama y como es tu actor favorito? Notes - George Clooney. Guapo, talentoso e inteligente. 3rd person sentences - El actor favorito de Luisa se llama George Clooney. El es guapo, talentoso e inteligente. This can be done in or outside of class and is a good substitute teacher lesson and activity. Student answers will vary, but a sample answer key is included that can be used to prep students for the activity.

Students work with partners quizzing each other on the descriptive adjectives of people listed on the "Escaleras" handout. One partner starts at the bottom of the list and asks the other to supply the translation. If correct, they continue up the stairs with new words. As soon as an error is made, partners return to the bottom of the stairs and start over. This list makes a great adjectives study guide and reference since it contains the most common descriptive adjectives of people.
