This resource is designed as a group activity, but could also be used for individual learning. It enables learners to draw on each other’s knowledge to complete the tasks. It works particularly well when split up into individual tasks and passed around the group one by one. Then at the end each person can balance one ledger account and the whole list can be pulled together as a group, whiteboard activity for the trial balance. It encompasses group activity, reading and understanding, maths and brings the group together at the end.
Descriptions of each transaction are included as well as the titles for the ledger accounts and blank ledgers.
To stretch the learners, some ‘red herring’ ledger accounts could be added and possibly some adjustments to the TB to turn it into an ETB.
This is a brief activity (3 pages in total) to show how to separate semi-variable costs using the high low method and includes a question, extended writing activity. It includes answers and marking guide.
This is a task for revision of professional ethics. It is an extended writing task. The answer sheet gives the marking criteria to ensure understanding.
These activities are in the form of 3 spreadsheet pages. The first one is an Income Statement, the second an appropriation account and the third are blank ledger accounts.
Cut up the Income Statement into sections for the learners to complete. Depending on their level, these can be cut into individual lines or chunked together. Cut up the appropriation statement too. These can be given to individuals or groups to put together in order. Once completed, they can then complete the capital accounts for the partners.
A fun activity which should take between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the level of learners. Ideal for AAT Level 3.
