This is a full lesson designed to conclude the Castro Unit on Paper 2 Authoritarian States. There are five tasks, starting with a discussion over the features of Authoritarianism, looking at the role of Eastern Values, before examining different features of Castro’s Cuba before building towards an exam style question. There are also TOK and CAS Links integrated in. Lesson is good to go from downloading, although is easily edited and adaptable for your needs.

This is a lesson on Cuba before Castro. It follows on from a lesson on Batista which I have included as well (no PPT with that one). It focuses on inequality and corruption in Batista’s Cuba and how it led to growing anti-government feeling. There is also a TOK linkage with one of the sources being a clip from The Godfather Part 2. The PPT is easily editable with no unnecessary gimmicks or over elaborate designs. The lesson basically teaches itself.

It’s the first lesson, so pretty basic introductory stuff, setting out context and planting seeds for why relations would become bad between the US and Cuba later on. I would also assign students the Crash Course by John Greene video on US Imperialism as pre-reading/viewing.
