This is a 3x1hour lesson which starts with the legacy Henry VIII left for his son Edward VI, and then moves into looking at the historiography of the Mid-Tudor Crisis. It considers contemporary source materials and activities which will span about 3 hours of class time and 2 hours of independent learning. This resource was produced for Unit 1C of the AQA A level, but can also be used for other boards teaching similar topics.

This resource focuses on explaining capitalism and communism through role play. Students are each given a character from either 1945 USSR or USA with information about their situation. They have to interview each other and record their results on a grid. They then use the grid to write an extended piece of evaluative writing - structure included to help students who require support. I have found this very useful to help students understand from the perspective of others in a fun way. The resource contains a short Power Point with instructions; colour-coded differentiated characters; and a grid to record findings.

This resource focuses on the historiography of Henry VII’s financial/economic policy and the beginning of his foreign policy. It contains a power point and resources which cover lessons 16-20 of unit 1C AQA A level, and should be used in conjunction with the AQA approved text book. It also contains resources to support the power point. It can also be used for Tudor units on other examination boards. This will take approximately 5 hours to teach.

The first part of this power point looks at the historiography of Henry VII’s consolidation of power through a class debate. It then goes on to consider A level essay writing. The last part starts looking at how Henry VII started to reduce the power of the nobles to help him further consolidate his power. There is also a resource which provides a useful diagram of Henry’s government structure. This is part of a scheme of learning that made for Year 9 about the Cold War era. It is about Berlin as a divided City and is lesson 11-12 in the scheme of learning. It focuses on the origins of the division; differences in peoples’ live in the east and west; the causes and consequences of the Berlin Wall; and looks at escape attempts. It includes clips and tasks.

This is part of scheme of learning for Key Stage 3 about the Cold War which looks at how Russia became communist in the first place, and puts the Cold War into its ideological context. It follows the lessons also included on the atomic bomb and capitalism and communism. It comprises of 2x1hours, and makes use of YouTube clips about the Bolshevik Revolution and communism, and there is also a resource for students to answer questions while they watch. I have found it to be a useful lesson for online teaching.

This is a second resource (first one Atomic Bomb) that I have made for a year 9 SOLbut can also be used for GCSE. It would take 2x1 hour lessons to deliver. The first hour is about the situation in 1945 in Europe and an introduction to ideologies, The students are required to demonstrate their understanding of communism and capitalism through matching statements and images to the correct ideologies. The second hour is a differentiated empathy game where the students take on the roles of characters in the USA and USSR and discuss their situation with each other filling in a grid as they go. This is a 22 slide power point which will take about 3 hours to complete. It focuses on the questions surrounding the dropping of the atomic bomb. It contains a range of activities; sources and video clips with an extended assessment task at the end. This answers the questions: How does an atomic bomb work What were the positives and negatives with regards to dropping the bomb Why did the USA drop it? I made this as part of a key stage 3 scheme of learning especially for students who are not continuing with history at GCSE so that they understand one of the most significant events of the twentieth century. This could also be used for the Superpower relations unit at GCSE.

This workbook contains 36 key Cold War events, and has been created to help students answer questions asking them why events are importance. 2 short paragraphs have been written for each event explaining a reason why it is important. Lower prior attaining students aiming for levels 4/5 need to learn them and write another reason as a third paragraph. Higher attaining students need to extend the reasons, and then add another detailed one of their own. They will learn the importance of the events as they write.
