This webquest is designed to get students thinking and talking about the concept of beauty/aesthetics which is one of the themes the AP Spanish test focuses on. It takes one class period working with a partner to complete the webquest and you may wish to complete the first page as homework the night before so students already have some thoughts on the topic as they enter the lab. Webquest takes students through several different sites as they examine what is beautiful today and years ago, followed by an article on plastic surgery in Spanish that they read and respond to. A really difficult very tense for students to integrate into their spoken vocabulary, this A-B partner practice has students asking their partners what they would do under a certain set of circumstances. Best suited for a Level IV or V AP class, this exerise is also fun for Heritage Language Speaker students who seldom get the practice they need in past subjunctive tense. Takes about 15-20 minutes to run in class and you will enjoy sharing out some of their answers large group afterwards to hear how they responded.

This practice packet will guide students through HABER as a helping verb and how to use it in the present, imperfect, future and conditional. It also covers formation of past participles in regular and irregular forms and contains 56 practice exercises for conjugation in the four tenses. This works well for a level III or higher class where you are studying past participles or as a review for a AP level 5 class.

This 50 verb conjugation quiz is useful for a higher level Spanish class where students have already learned all the irregular verb forms in the preterite. I give this quiz several times to students over the course of a week and then let them choose which score to take for credit. Quiz should take no longer than 15-20 minutes since students have multiple opportunities to better their scores. I do not return any copies of the quizzes until the last day when they choose which one to submit. We all have stories of migration or immigration that brought members of our families to this country. I created this project for a level IV class with a mixed population of recent arrivals and long time residents of our city. Students share out either their own personal story or one of a family member in a 3 minute oral presentation. This powerpoint works well to accompany El Pachuco y Otros Extremos by Octavio Paz. The powerpoint walks students through what a Pachuco is, some famous Pachucos, an contains links to some short video clips to illustrate various Pachucos. I created this powerpoint for a Heritage Speaker Spanish class where students have a high level of conversational Spanish but lack prior knowledge on the history of the Pachucho movement. Could also be used in a level 5 AP class where students already have a high level of comprehension.

Practice using SER and ESTAR

This project is designed for Level II or higher students to get them using informal commands and food vocabulary. Students guide a randomly selected classmate in the preparation of a simple recipe. Project includes suggestions to prepare, step by step instructions, 2 pages of relevant useful vocabulary and a rubric for grading. You can generally see 7 presentations per class period if you are well organized. Allow 2 days for students to create scripts and one class period for peer editing and proofing. Hilarious fun to watch the kids try to explain how to put things together in Spanish. Winner of Missouri Best Lessons award.

Movie guide follows the film La Lengua de las Mariposas, a film about a friendship between a teacher and young boy during the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. This film has one strong/violent scene in it that should be omitted by teacher and is not necessary to the plot. The movie gives students a very good idea of the fear that people felt during Franco's reign. Film is in Spanish, so are study questions.
