A one page quick description of how to form verbs in the FUTURE tense from infinitives. Native speakers need less rote practice than a traditional Spanish class and this 2 page review will quickly take them through how to make the future and show them the irregular stems. Page two is an opportunity to use the future tense in an essay prompt to describe the world in 30 years. Download contains some simple tables and prompts to practice forming verbs in the future and essay prompt. Takes one class period to complete.

Sometimes even heritage learners need a little help with their verbs. This quick review grid gives them the present tense of each verb in different subjects and asks them to come up with the past, conditional and future tense conjugations. I use this as a small group activity and then have them trade papers with another team to correct the errors using my key. Treating it as a contest more than a worksheet works better and allows kids to put their heads together on a pile of irregulars, stem changers and other unusual conjugations. Students in levels IV and V can also benefit from this activity as the subject nouns aren't specified and will force them to look to the endings to figure out the forms. Activity takes about 30 minutes to run and correct, includes an answer key for you and them.

This partner practice has students answering questions about their study habits and class behaviours and then surveying 2 classmates. Takes about 20 minutes to run and is great for practice with school vocabulary and frequency words (siempre, a veces, nunca) This practice works best with level II students and lines up nicely with Realidades 1A vocabulary.

This newest 20 episode of Radio Ambulante addresses the issue of beauty, through the eyes of Gabi who is very self critical and those around her who have criticized and mocked her for her ugliness since childhood. In the interview Gabi explores the topic of ugliness/beauty and how she sees herself, those around her and how others have treated her. This podcast is excellent for a Heritage Learner class or a Level V Spanish AP class as one of the AP themes is beauty and aesthetics. There are a couple of questions the interviewer poses that may make some students uncomfortable (references to body parts) so its best to listen to the podcast and decide if your audience is mature, or if you want to make a brief comment prior to beginning the listening practice to avoid discomfort. Download includes 13 questions in chronological order and 4 follow up topics for discussion or as writing prompts for students to react. Answers to podcast also included and a link on top to podcasts for absent students. Radio Ambulante never disappoints and this topic is spot on for AP test prep.

This movie guide follows the journey of an American school bus as it heads to Central America to be transformed into a vibrant, colorful method of public transport. Documentary contains interviews with drivers, passengers and the people who renovate the repurposed bus. Documentary takes about a class and a half and is available for purchase on line. Beautiful and informative, this documentary works well with AP classes studying the themes of beauty and global challenges.

This activity works well for AP Spanish IV or V students, or Heritage Language learners working with the concept of identity. This project has students choose a specific age from their childhood and then guides them through how to create poem about how they were at that age. Allow at least one day in class to work, one day to help students proof their rough drafts and one day for students to present their poems to peers.

This project is designed for the end of level III or the beginning of level IV Spanish class. Students are introduced to relevant thematic vocabulary and then use it to track the events in a soap opera of their choice for 5 days. Students then have a choice of 2 oral projects to present the main events of the soap and to voice their recommendations to their peers. Great review for preterite vs imperfect while introducing students to the popular culture Hispanic telenovelas. Project includes vocabulary, guidelines, note taking template and rubric.

This lesson is designed for a Heritage Learners, AP Spanish Lit or AP V Spanish class where students will be creating short stories. Lesson contains five famous intros from Latino authors and charts for students to record what they learn about a story from the intro and further wonderings they may have. I like to divide students into groups and assign them each a quote, then share out their results as a large group. This activity is particularly useful if you will be asking students to create a short story and want to encourage them to present information in a way that piques readers curiosity. Lesson takes one full class period to complete, key not included bc student answers will vary.

Its a great poem to launch a unit on Neruda or to use with a level III or higher class where you are studying poetry. (Realidades 3, AP Lit) Lesson download includes a word version of the poem, quotes from poem for students to reflect upon and think/pair/share, an audio link to listen to the poem and a writing prompt. This Netflix documentary will change how students think about their clothing purchases and consumption habits overall. Great for Social Studies or Family and Consumer Science, this 95 minute documentary examines the origins of where our clothing is produced, and its cost to the people who make it, our environment and the planet as a whole. Suitable for any level of middle or high school where you are discussing economy, global trade, environment this film will open up much to discuss. Lesson down load includes a brief survey for students prior to watching in a think/pair/share, 25 chronologically ordered questions,, three experiments for students to complete at home after the first night of viewing and space for personal reflection at the end. Lesson takes as least two days to complete and could really use a third to help students process what they learned. Answer key to movie questions is also included. Film is available on NETFLIX.

This fifteen slide powerpoint presents students with illustrated beginnings of conditional SI clauses that they complete using the subjuntivo imperfecto. Each slide has a sentence starter and prompts for an answer. Free preview is the word doc template that students can use to answer each situation, then they compare their answer to a friends and together decide who had the more creative answer. Students could use this as a warm up for a quiz or just for some speaking practice bc making si clauses is a challenge for them. Takes about 25 minutes to run or you can break it up over a few days for a warm up. Best suited for level IV or higher students who have had some experience forming verbs in the imperfect subjunctive.

Radioambulante.org has many engaging story episodes about various people throughout Latin America. This episode tells the story of a fisherman lost at sea for 438 days who survived until he landed in the Marshall Islands. Episode is about 25 minutes long and is best suited for a Heritage Speakers or AP level class where students already have high levels of proficiency. Non native speaker classes will work better if you pause the program periodically and replay parts to ensure students understand. Download includes 20 questions for comprehension and two follow up questions for students to process after listening. Takes one class period to complete. This is one of the most compelling stories I have heard yet on Radio Ambulante and your students will certainly be engaged. Link to episode is at the top of the page for easy access and absent students who can listen at home on their phones. Answer key also included.

Another round of "better than you", this game keeps the whole class moving, engaged and receiving instant feedback on the concept of Preterite vs Imperfect. Put desks in pairs, number each station of paired desks. Students write the first station number on their paper and game begins. Students decide preterite/imperfect and race their partner, slamming pencil on desk when finished. Reveal the answer and have ALL students rotate desks. Winning student goes one station lower 6-->5, losing student goes one station higher 6-->7. Settle all ties and disputes, dual wrong answers with a round of ROCK PAPER SCISSORS and continue the game. First student back to their seat WINNING wins the game. Game can be played for entire class to practice or as a warm up before the quiz. Product contains 35 practice sentences with alternating answers to play the game. This lesson works great with level II or higher students who have been practicing the Preterite vs Imperfect concept for some time.
