They will also practise making inferences from the text to deepen their understanding of the characters and settings, using these insights to enhance their own writing. This six-week unit, based on Yokki and the Parno Gry, guides pupils through developing key writing skills:
Week 1: Introduction to the story and exploring descriptive language.
Week 2: Crafting descriptions using subordination and coordination.
Week 3: Understanding key features of descriptive writing and making inferences.
Week 4: Oral storytelling, focusing on retelling the story and describing settings.
Week 5: Planning a narrative using the Boxed-Up Method to structure ideas.
Week 6: Writing and completing their narratives, incorporating rich language and refining their work.
