About The British School in The Netherlands
At BSN you are free to truly true. With small classes, motivated students, excellent facilities and resources, you can concentrate on what you do best. You’ll receive outstanding classroom support. Our Ed Tech strategy ensures the learning benefits are firmly in focus and provides the best tools for great learning to occur. Your students benefit from an extensive range of co-curricular activities, trips and visits. All this is reflected in our exam results, which are consistently outstanding.
The Netherlands is one of the most welcoming of all EU member countries to professionals working abroad and is a very pleasant country in which to live and work. The Netherlands regularly tops surveys on child wellbeing.
The working language of The BSN is English. The Dutch are excellent linguists, and English is widely spoken by around 70% of the population.
Transport services and connections are excellent - our campuses are located in The Hague, just 30 or so minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol airport, or in the other direction, from the Hoek of Holland ferry terminal. Public transport is fast, reliable and generally good value for money, but many choose the truly Dutch option of cycling, making good use of the highly developed network of cycle paths.

Location
When I first joined The BSN, I didn’t plan or expect to be here nine years later! This a reflection of how much I have and continue to enjoy working for the organisation. There have been lots of opportunities for extra responsibilities and I have worked in a variety of leadership roles. With this I have been challenged constantly and been able to innovate and lead projects that have had a direct impact on learning and teaching.
- Vicky Foulkes, Junior SchoolI was amazed by the whole recruitment process. Visiting the school for the interview was daunting but was brilliant to get a feel for the school, staff, children and The Hague as a place. A second settling in visit with my whole family helped me to integrate into the school and prepare our family for the move before the September start. The school and working environment has a warm community feel to it Relocation can be stressful and the school were always there to support and answer my numerous questions.
- Oliver Morgan, PE TeacherSince arriving at the BSN from the UK I have been made to feel extremely welcome by everyone within the organization. Before the move, HR were a constant source of support answering my many questions and putting us at ease. We then had the BSN Big Weekend, which was organized to help us get a feel for the Hague and Leiden, as well as helping with some more practical aspects of moving to the Netherlands, such as using public transport. There were numerous opportunities to get to know other new starters and also a chance for our partners and families to get to meet each other, before actually starting work, which is a big plus when moving to the new country.
- Robert Swanson, Senior School TeacherBSN is a school with ambition, where the learning of the children always comes first. My experience has been excellent from the application process, interview, and induction to the day-to-day teaching and interaction with students, teachers and parents. I feel supported in my role and in my professional development. I am a happy teacher in a great school, with a happy family in a great country. Applying to BSN was the best decision I have ever made in my life.
