Safeguarding and Criminal Record Disclosures

Step by Step school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of this commitment, we ensure that our recruitment practices are in strict accordance with the statutory guidance outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (2024).

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Therefore, all applicants are required to declare any convictions, cautions, or reprimands, including those that would otherwise be considered “spent” under the Act, but are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). Successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a children’s barred list check, as part of our commitment to ensuring a safe environment for our students.
