Job overview

We are looking for a part-time A level Art History teacher to join our team starting in September. The role may suit a current teacher or post-graduate student in Art History or a related field.

The role is flexible, and we are looking for someone to teach 3-9 hours on-site for two to three days per week between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Most teaching is one-to-one or in very small groups of two or three and is paid hourly.

What we can offer:

Westminster Tutors is an independent sixth-form college based in South Kensington. We have a longstanding reputation for academic excellence, and our teachers - despite the informal atmosphere in the college - inevitably command the respect of their students. Our students are mature and committed with exemplary behaviour, and staff morale is high.

The college's reputation has always been built upon our teachers, who remain our greatest asset today. Established in 1934, we remain close to our tutorial college origins and teach almost entirely at A level, with much of that teaching continuing to be one-to-one. This means the administrative burden (record keeping, marking, bureaucracy) is much lower, while job satisfaction is very high.

Our teachers are instrumental in the academic progress their individual students make and have the satisfaction of knowing they really do make a difference. The success of our approach is also born out by our results (A level progress/ results/ university destinations), and we outstrip our competitors by a long measure.

We can offer our part-time teachers very flexible timetables according to their other commitments. A minimum commitment would be 3 hours a week, spread over two days.

The diversity and range of accomplishments amongst our teachers all contribute to the unique atmosphere at Westminster Tutors and provide a source of inspiration for our students.

What we are looking for:

The successful candidate will ideally be a qualified teacher, although this is not a requirement. We place far greater importance on candidates having strong academic credentials and require a good degree/ postgraduate degree in Art History or a closely related subject, as well as a proven ability to engage and inspire students aged 16+.

Our students have a very broad range of abilities, including some with SEND. Additional experience preparing students for PPE, TSA, and highly competitive UCAS applications would be advantageous.

Application Process:

If this sounds like the job for you, we would love to hear from you as soon as possible!

Please fill in all the fields on the TES Quick Apply form and include a brief relevant statement supporting your application to Westminster Tutors.

We regret that we will only contact candidates who have been successfully shortlisted for interview.

Thank you for reading this advertisement and your interest in Westminster Tutors Independent Sixth Form College.

Safeguarding:

Westminster Tutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Prior to an appointment being made, applicants will undergo enhanced child protection screening relevant to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS. As part of this process, an online digital search will be undertaken, and candidates will be asked about any previous unprotected convictions or outstanding allegations.

Westminster Tutors was founded in 1934 and is one of the oldest remaining tutorial colleges in the country.  The college now operates as an independent sixth form college admitting students aged 16-25 and, while it was originally based in Westminster, it is now situated in South Kensington in two Victorian terrace houses.

Westminster Tutors retains its long-standing reputation for academic excellence and offering highly qualified tutors who ensure each student reaches their full academic potential.   Much teaching is still one-to-one, while some classes are offered in very small groups of two or three students.  We have high aspirations for all of our students and our approach speaks for itself: attainment, added value and onward higher education destinations are exceptional.

The maximum capacity at the college is 45 students, which means each student receives superb pastoral support according to individual needs, and staff find their work highly rewarding as levels of engagement are so high.  The college has a strong ethos of inclusion and a good number of students have special educational needs, mental health needs or neurological differences such as autism or ADHD.  Westminster Tutors is academically non-selective and admissions are therefore based on whether the student has academic aspirations and motivation in line with the college’s offering and whether we are able we are able to meet the student’s individual needs through our strong system of pastoral support, which includes mentoring for students with additional needs.

Our staff find their work truly rewarding due to the very high levels of engagement and the fact that they can enjoy the impact that their expertise and commitment has on each and every student.  The students' behaviour is exemplary and they love being at the college, while 100% of our parents would recommend us.

Westminster Tutors really is a unique institution and it is a pleasure to work for us!
