The Job

We seek an Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) to work across all phases and classes. This position involves being the SENCO. This is a great opportunity for an outstanding SENCO to rise to a leadership team position within an outstanding and diverse school.

Galleywall pupils have a very broad range of abilities including 20% on the SEN register. We are a highly inclusive school community in inner city Bermondsey. The role of Assistant Headteacher Inclusion is to take responsibility for meeting the needs of our SEN pupils, manage the team of teaching assistants and ensure that provision is correctly matched to need.

The position will suit an experienced and qualified SENDCO looking for promotion to leadership. The successful candidate will show initiative and autonomy, and will work within a leadership team of eight which includes whole-school decision making and management of behaviour.

This is a demanding but highly rewarding position within a dynamic, friendly and successful learning environment. There is an Inclusion Assistant and Welfare Assistant reporting to you and a team of administrators to assist. There are a range of therapists working with us and liaison with the SEN department at Southwark.

This is an exciting time for the school with a new leadership team and broad, holistic curriculum. We are currently bringing into use a refurbished building in which we can set up some specific SEN classes.

The current post-holder is moving to a position out of schools and we have some flexibility over the start date - January 25 or earlier, allowing a rigorous hand-over.

Those interested in the position are strongly advised to contact the school for a conversation with the Headteacher prior to applying.

Our SATS results in 2023 were all above national average and are on track to increase significantly in subsequent years. This will be achieved by our broad and innovative curriculum and a highly professional and committed staff team.

We are proud of our programme of training and development for all staff, plus excellent career advancement opportunities within this growing trust.

The school has recently appointed a new Headteacher and has committed to further building its already outstanding holistic offer, second to none in the private or state sectors, as well as a programme to challenge the most able.
