The Workplace is an aspirational and innovative Alternative Provision Free School in East Sussex which opened in September 2020. The Workplace provides industry relevant education for students in year 9-11 which is high quality, based on partnerships and focussed on enterprise. It offers students a strong grounding in Maths, English, Science and Enterprise alongside quality provision in one of six vocational areas (Hairdressing & Barbering, Hospitality & Catering, Multi-trades construction, Automotive, Sports & Fitness and Arts & Creativity).

 

Students who access The Workplace come from across East Sussex and have been identified as at being at risk of disengagement from their commissioning school. We have high expectations of students via Workplace standards, to suitably prepare them for post-16 and the wider world of work. Staff work with employers across industry to ensure that classroom practice replicates the world of work and ensure students develop relevant skills and knowledge.

 

The role of the Assistant Headteacher is to ensure all on-site operations at The Workplace run effectively. Working alongside and line managed by the Executive Head, the post holder will lead in ensuring the curriculum offer is effective and ensures all students make good progress in relation to their starting points. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring progress and assessment data is robust in all vocational areas and this data informs planning, resourcing and classroom practice so that learning is accelerated. 

 

The Assistant Headteacher for operational management and curriculum will be accountable for achieving high standards of student progression in the identified “soft outcomes” at The Workplace linked these to student the development of the ‘four P’s (Prepared, Professional, Purposeful and Proficient). This will include Classcharts analysis to support, hold accountable, develop and lead the staff team in these areas.
