Job overview

St. Gregory’s Catholic High School seeks to appoint an Assistant Head teacher to join our highly successful leadership team to assist our school in building on our success.

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional candidate to begin a new career chapter in 2025 by joining a successful and thriving school community, taking your current potential to a new level.

The senior team at St Gregory’s is comprised of the Headteacher, two Deputy Headteachers and four Assistant Headteachers who are supported by a Director of Finance.

The governors are open minded about the specific leadership aspects of the role. At this point, we welcome applications from outstanding, driven individuals with a sustained track record of success in your current or recent roles in school. We are looking for someone who has high ambition for children and themselves. Finalising of the specific nature of the role will be determined on offer of the post but we will consider pastoral leadership strengths in particular. The role will be hybrid and will combine elements of curriculum leadership too putting the postholder in a fantastic position for further development to deputy head.

Our school is at the heart of the thriving Catholic Parishes of West Warrington situated in an area of substantial growth next to all of the key motorway routes in the North West. We take pride in our relationship with the local community, partner primary schools and our partnerships within the archdiocese trust.

This is a unique opportunity to join one of the highest performing (top 3) schools in the Liverpool Archdiocese and Warrington area where you will get to work with pupils and staff who have a love of learning. Our most recent examination performance produced a progress 8 score of +0.35, above the national average.

Our school is well oversubscribed with a waiting list for admission in every year group. Our recent expansion in pupil numbers is now complete and has coincided with a building refurbishment of 23 new classrooms, a new sports hall and a new chapel.

In July 2024, Ofsted’s inspection report confirmed that the school continued to be ‘Good’ in every area and the school was graded as ‘Outstanding’ in our Section 48 Inspection of the Catholic Life provision of the school in February 2019. We encourage all applicants to read both reports and to review our school website too.

The opening paragraph’s from the Ofsted report reads: “Pupils are proud to attend this school. They value the strong relationships that they have with their teachers. Pupils positively embrace the school’s values. For example, they are respectful and empathetic towards other people regardless of their culture or background.”

We are now relishing the challenge of continuing our successful journey towards providing an outstanding whole school provision. Your qualities will include being an outstanding communicator, dedication, commitment and resilience in the face of challenges whilst showing passion and an ambition for all children. Positive relationships are key to our school.

You will have experience as a very successful middle leader with a strong track record of impact and performance or you may be an existing Assistant Headteacher wishing to join a new dynamic team and take on a new challenge and environment. Access to NPQ courses will provided to the successful applicant for continuous CPD and we support all applicants who wish to eventually move into deputy and headship posts in future years.

The school welcome and encourage potential applicants to meet with the Headteacher to discuss the role further but this is not a formal requirement. We also encourage you to review our school website: https://www.stgregoryshigh.com/

Closing Date:                                                Thursday 21st November 2024

Shortlisting / Notice for Interview Date:       Friday 22nd November 2024

Interviews:                                                    W/c 2nd December 2024 (interviews likely to be over 2 school days)

The mission statement of St Gregory’s reads: “This is our God, the servant King. He calls us now to follow him.” The school’s prayer is: “Inspire us to build a community based on love and respect. May we be empowered to challenge injustice every day. Help us to value and support each other to create a positive Learning environment where all may serve. Amen.”

The staff, parents, governors and students of St. Gregory’s Catholic High School aim to work in partnership to create a vibrant community in which all are valued. At the core of school life is a belief that there is no better inspiration than the example and teaching of Jesus Christ.

The school community seeks to set an example of service, inspired by Jesus, and in doing so fulfil the aspirations that it has for each of its pupils, and to foster their spiritual, academic and personal development.
