Job overview

The Governors wish to seek and appoint an ambitious leader with the vision and expertise to work as part of the Senior Leadership Team to move RBA to ‘outstanding’ within the next five years. Due to promotion, we are seeking a leader with energy, enthusiasm and character to enthuse staff and students through the next stages of the academy’s development. Applications are welcome from experienced SENDCos, someone who is currently a Deputy SENDCo or an experienced teacher ready for the next step. Full training will be provided, including the NPQ SEND, if the candidate does not currently hold the NASENDCo.

We have a genuine passion and excitement about how students learn and how teachers teach, led by evidence-based research. This role presents an exciting opportunity for somebody to join our team and support our progress by leading and shaping the SEND development of the school.

Our vision for our school is to produce responsible young people of whom we can all be proud and who are prepared to contribute to their local, national and global communities. We always see ourselves as forward thinking and innovative and if you feel that you have the qualities to play a role in leading us forward then we look forward to receiving your application!

Robert Barclay Academy is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive with an expanding roll. We have also recently moved to becoming an Apple School where each child and staff have an Apple iPad device. Staff are committed to providing a stimulating curriculum for all students as well as an engaging programme of extra-curricular activities. RBA offers excellent support and a professional development programme for all staff.

Diversity: The Scholars’ Education Trust is fully committed to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. We want to attract and retain the very best staff in all areas of the trust, ensuring our staff body reflects the diversity of our students and local community.

RBA recognise the negative impacts of under representation and lack of diversity in the education system and in all aspects of our society. RBA is committed to providing professional development to all staff, for example anti-racism training to enhance our understanding of the impact of unconscious bias in education. Please be prepared to discuss the impacts of unconscious bias in education.

Scholars’ Education Trust is an equal opportunities employer. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Declaration of criminal offences

The trust is required to give you the opportunity to voluntarily declare convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings that are not ‘protected’ as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013 and 2020). You will be provided with a criminal self-declaration form by the school if you are shortlisted for the post. All posts in schools are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. If you are appointed you will be required to have an up to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate. The existence of a criminal background does not automatically mean that you cannot be appointed but it may do so.
