Job overview

“Education is Success”

An opportunity to work in the only non-private Academy in London that offers both International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes at KS5

Our school

Westminster Academy is an Outstanding International Business and Enterprise academy and IB World School serving a multi-ethnic community in Central London. The Academy is proud of its work to improve outcomes for students in an inclusive, supportive environment. Our longstanding 1:1 device programme allows WA to thrive as both an onsite and remote learning environment. As a member of the collaborative WA community you will have the opportunity to work alongside an exceptionally talented group of colleagues who are committed to continued professional growth and improvement of the student experience.

The Attendance Improvement officer (AIO) will be responsible for monitoring attendance and punctuality rates, reducing student absence and lateness and engaging with families to support them to ensure they fulfil their legal responsibilities. The AIO will liaise with outside agencies and wider professionals to ensure collaborative multi-agency working to support and deliver interventions in a variety of ways to re-engage those who are not accessing education.

It will be essential to work closely with the safeguarding team, the SEND department and the year teams and to have the ability to understand the barriers to attendance, and to create practical solutions to overcome them. A good knowledge of the community and the ability to form productive relationships with families will be essential. It will also be important to work collaboratively with outside agencies in order to adapt best practice to the Academies circumstances.

The ideal candidate for this post will need:

  • To drive high standards of accuracy with the ability to meet set deadlines
  • To be willing to support the ethos and mission of Westminster Academy.
  • To have a strong understanding of the MIS and attendance processes within Education
  • To be a confident communicator both verbally and in writing
  • To be a supportive team player

What we offer:

  • A commitment to staff well-being, including access to the local gym, weekly fitness sessions, staff social events, Perkbox membership with associated benefits
  • The opportunity to develop personally and professionally with structured performance management, and opportunities to advance to positions of greater responsibility
  • Flexible working options (after completing a successful probation period)
  • A supportive Senior Leadership Team

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. As such there may be additional safeguarding requirements and responsibilities depending on the nature of the role advertised and the extent to which the role will involve contact with children. We expect all staff to share our commitment to safeguarding.

A professional social media check may take place to reduce risks to reputation, confidentiality breach and data security. The check identifies a candidate's online presence to look for negative behaviours such as bullying, racism, nudity and excessive bad language

The post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020, as the work brings employees into contact with children who are regarded by the Act as a vulnerable group. Applicants for any role at Westminster Academy must disclose all spent and unspent convictions.
