Job overview

Peter Symonds is located in Winchester. It is a vibrant sixth form college which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. Standards of music provision at the College are exceptionally high, and the extra-curricular programme is outstanding. All our A level Music and BTEC Pop Performance students are offered free instrumental/vocal lessons paid for by the college as part of their course. We also offer the A level in Music Technology and are home to the Hampshire Specialist Music Course, a gifted and talented programme which includes coaching in chamber music. Many of our students go on to study at the country’s most competitive conservatoires, universities and contemporary academies.

We have a vacancy for a Teacher of Bass guitar to join the team on a part time basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional player and teacher, who can help young people develop their skills and interests and who can motivate and inspire them to perform to their potential in concerts and assessments. We are looking for a teacher who can inspire and guide our lower achievers as well as the students who play to a very high level, including diploma standard, and who may be aiming to study further or aiming for conservatoire.

Students not taking a music subject may apply for private bass guitar lessons during the college day, adding to your timetable. All instrumental and vocal lessons take place in students’ free periods. Music students may also take a second study on a private basis.

A large number of our students each year, usually around fifty, are able to secure places at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Pastoral support is well resourced and students also benefit from an unusual range of music, sporting and other enrichment opportunities.
